I live in Altadena (just north of Pasadena). I primarily boulder (Stoney Point & Horse Flats), but am also getting into trad.

Cool! Altadena. Maybe you know the answer to this. I hike up to Hennenger flats (spelling). I noticed the bridge that crosses Eaton Canyon has what appears to be glued on holds. Did people climb there before? The holds have been painted over and are very slippery.

I know the hike and the bridge, but haven't noticed the glue-ons. Guess I need to pay closer attention.

I'm pretty new to Altadena so I'm not up on much of the history.

I think those glue-ons are mentioned in the So. Cal bouldering guide.

Yes, some folks climb the old bridge. I too thought it was listed in the SoCal B. Guide.

FWIW, Horse Flats is almost never crowded any more (everyone seems to go sport climbing at Williamson Rock, just a little farther up the two), but I think it is a great way to boulder on granite and escape the summer smog and heat. In addition to bouldering, there is a small top rope wall with a couple of leads.

Rumor has it that an indoor gym is opening in Pasadena soon (someone told me that at Stoney Point last week).

long time trad climber and mountaineer. also enjoy sport climbing at Williamson, ORG, and Clark Canyon(near Mammoth). yes, people, including Lynn Hill, used to climb on the Eaton canyon bridge. there are remmants of holds on the bridge over the Arroyo Seco just north of the Rose Bowl.

Yes Pasadena will soon be home to gym named
http://www.junglegymclimbing.com/gym.html

They had pictures of the future structures. Can not wait. I have a home wall in my garage, but it's hard meeting people that way.
