I went to a Oshmans Supersports store (sporting goods store) a few years ago and they had a climbing wall that rotates like a vertical tredmill. I don't remember the name or what it would cost, but I remember thinking it cooled cool (before I climbed) and now I bet it would be a great way to train. My question is, anyone know the name of that company and how much it would cost? I bet it's out of my league, but I'm just curious still. Thanks!

I'm not sure if it's the same as you saw at Oshmans, but a gym next to my office has something called a treadwall. Can find information about it here: http://www.treadwall.com/

They used to have a really big treadwall at this Rei by my house. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen, but I don't have a doubt that its way out of most of our ranges price wise. -Adam

I tried one of those at a gym. Now provided it was only for a few minutes, but I thought it was the dumbest thing ever. I like to do long traverses in the gym, but that thing doesn't let you train the same way. You don't have time to be careful with your feet slowly do each move. I thought it sucked. Anyway, just my opinion I guess.

I tried one once at a the gym in a friend's apartment complex. I thought it was pretty cool. It had a speed control, so I think you could set it to take your time if you'd like. Although it was before I was climbing regularly, it did get me pumped in only about five minutes.

They're also in the range of $10,000!!! I would imagine for about 1/10the that price, you could build a hell of a home gym!! Jeff

theyre not so great a climb is made fun by all the different moves you do on those walls youll just be doing the same move over and over and over and over and over again sure you can change them but if you ask buy a home wall

the ymca here has one. too bad its "for kids only." i used to climb on that thing all the time, but now they won't let me in there..it sucks getting old. i remember it had different speeds, so you could be more precise with your footwork, and you could change the angle of it. i always preferred the 45 degree overhang.

I have to confess that I've been climbing/working out on one of these things for the past 3 years at a fitness gym located in Norman, Oklahoma. Its really cool. The owner lets me change and/or adjust holds and the speed and angle of the wall is adjustable. You can even program it! Although you do see the same holds every 14 feet, the wall is wide enough (10 feet) and there is enough holds that you can do different moves and variations. The funny thing is when skinny ol' me walks into the gym, all the big muscled up folks just kinda look at you with pity. Then after you crank thru a 5 to 6 minute spin cranked over at 50 degrees they kinda look at you differently!! A lot of them just stop and stare with disbelief!!! I really think they are afraid of it because I rarely see anyone on it. Climb on, Terry

I use one of these walls at Golds Gym where I work out. I warm up on it for weight training. On some days I will do a sustaied 30 minute +work out on it. I think it is usefull for certain training but it does not beat outside. John

ya. i mess on one at my gym all the time. They are fun, but you dont get the same results or feeling as a real rock wall or a rock climbing gym, its just good for maybe warming up or endurance. Call around at gyms and ask ifd they have one and go try it out.

It's lame, it's worth 15 minutes of your time if your 10 yrs old. The treadmill is either motor driven or magnetic freefall. You can set it for your weight and it rotates as you get higher or it spins you on to the floor. The part that is boring is it's the same holds over and over again. you've spun it twice that's prety much it. It's like doing traverses on those bridge overpasses, the ones with the preformed concrete slabs. After you get the sequence for the first two they're all the same. Now if they made one 100' tall and 75' wide with natural features it might be worthwhile.
