There a report on Super Topo that Tommy Caldwell and Beth Rodden got the second free assent of the Nose yesterday. No details however. Anyone know anything further?

We saw this rumor on Supertopo but is there a press release to validate it?

In reply to: ...but is there a press release to validate it? WTF! When did any ascent in rock climbing need a "press release" to "validate" it? We don't "validate" sh#t, we climb it, and if you or anyone that saw you do it have a level of integrity your peers accept that suffices. If Werner drops a hint that Jesus Christ has returned you can believe it happened. And people wonder why old guys piss and moan...

In reply to: And people wonder why old guys piss and moan... So either you're a young guy or a geezer with a poor knowledge of history. Too much money involved these days to merely take a climber's word on accomplishments or events.

Actually I'm a geezer with an excellent grasp on the history - you're second comment is the unstated obvious behind my comment. And attitudes like this are precisely why climbing has becoming a Six Flags activity with [safe] stage shows for all ages. Trust me, innuendo from Werner is 'the word' to every gear manufacturer and sponsor on Earth. Again, and people wonder why old guys piss and moan...

Hi Rebecca, Don't let those salty old dogs get ya down. But yes, anything Werner Braun says (he is who posted it up on ST) is absolute Gospel. So purty cool stuff, eh? Team Caldwell. Amazing.

awesome! i've always wondered who would get the second ascent. so, does the article on ST say anything about who lead what pitches? it was like a team free thing right? swapping leads basically. either way, that is so cool, exciting, i bet it's up there as one of there favorite repeats.

Curt Damn people, I just assumed after such an event and in light of the fact that the two of them are sponsered by like 8 companies combined there would be an offical press release. All I wanted to do was read about it some more cause it's so awesome. People need to chill about a bit, eh?

In defense of rvega, today's popular climbing culture is very media and spray saturated. Of course you know that. If a fourth grader has an entourage following her around while she works V10, then I am pretty sure something of "Free Nose" stature will require at least as much validation anymore. Sorry, Werner. Sorry, crusty old guys. I don't make the rules (honest, I don't), I just point out to you how they've changed.

Again, there isn't a person writing checks in the business today that wouldn't take Werner's or the Caldwell's word on it...

I believe Mr. Braun (even though I don't know him). But I don't think everybody knows who he is. (Joe/Jane Everyguy consumers, not leaders in the climbing industry)

kudos to them. and if they both freed it (and from the ST thread they did), that makes it 2 women and 1 man to free the nose. they have us by the balls, i tell you
