I am looking for a climbing partner for October 27 and 28 because I am arriving before my friends. I can follow up to 10b/c. Anytype of route that can be completed in a day would be great. I will most likely be staying in camp 4. PM me if anyone wants to climb.

Is there something wrong with yosemite this time of year that no one is going to be climbing? Would it be possible for me to pick up a partner in camp 4? If anyone has picked up a partner in camp 4 before, are there any tips or suggestions since this is my first attempt at a random climbing hookup.

What is wrong is that you are posting on a site where only a small percentage of the people actually climb more than a couple times a year, and of those that do, many are gumbies or Owners of Shiny Gear.

You will have no problem getting a partner in C4 if the weather is good. Put a note up on the board, wander into random sites looking for victims in the evening or around breakfast. If you happen to be hot and female... or just female, you will get a partner instantly. If you are male and not particularly gregarious, you may be reduced to actually walking to crags to beg belays (try Swan Slabs or Church Bowl).

The weather in the valley right now could not get any more perfect. Me, I picked now to go to Europe on business. Oh well.

Thanks, I will try putting a note up on the board and wandering around. I havent spent time in the valley without a partner so I was hoping to have one before leaving the east coast. Well I guess being female is good for one thing and the weather report looks really nice so I may luck out there.

That is too bad that the people on this site only go out a couple times a year. I am out almost everyweekend that the weather is cooperating.

Enjoy your business trip. One of my friends I climb with just returned from Europe on business and climbing and he had pretty good weather but not enough vacation left this year so he can't come along.

Naturally I was exaggerating a little. But it's been my experience that this site is a magnet for people who are more talk than do, or are just wannabes of some kind. There is a very high flake factor... it's the internet, after all.

Sad but true, being a chick in Camp 4, if you're reasonably sociable, means you will be climbing super classics with studly young guys. I've never met a woman in C4 who didn't have her pick of partners. I mean, it's easy to get partner generally, but if you're a young buck who would you rather drag up Serenity? And if you're one of those gems of a gal that can lead the damned thing, well, gimme a call... I need a rope gun :)

[this would make an interesting study... sex and sexism in climbing]

Sweden in October. Bleh. But I shortened the trip so I could come back here and hit the road for a couple of weeks -- I have 25 days of vacation left. Yos->Josh... mmmm...

Well, I haven't heard of the climb serenity, thus I dont know the rating but I am meeting my friend to teach me to lead on trad gear. Since I normally just follow and remove gear. If it were bolted I would definitly give it a shot.

Serenity Crack is 10d.

May I recommend then, for your first-ish trad lead, The Grack, Center over on Glacier Point Apron. Stellar low-angle 5.6 and I've no doubt the most fun and friendly .6 in the valley.

Be careful and have fun. Don't forget your helmet. Last week I got pinged probably six times in four days, once pretty damned good.

Hey,

Still need a climbing partner for Yosemite ?

Like Eric said, it's not as easy being a guy looking for a climbing partner at C4. This is an attempt to snag a partner in advance.

I can trad climb up to 5.8+, and do some hard 11's on sport.

Just got back from Yosemite. Went there solo, stayed in C4, and climbed with 5 different partners in 4 days. no problem finding climbers.

Yosemite is killer right now. Climbed shirtless yesterday.

Tonight on the other hand, we are having a loud thunderstorm

Peace

Man, I've only been home one day, and I already feel like I should go back.

Gee, such hostilities. I am sure it is from typing about climbing rather than actually climbing. I don't blame you. I would rather be climbing than writing about it also. I climb 3-4 days a week but probably have already finished for the season due to the change of weather here in the Sierras.

Actually, Glacier Point Apron is fine. Yes, there was a rock fall that killed a climber a couple years ago, but established climbs in that area are as safe/unsafe as anywhere else. Remember, Nature always bats last. If you are afraid to climb where there is a potential for rockfall, then you should stay at the gym.

I am starting a new thread on finding a partner in Yosemite. Cheers to all. DR
