Here's another article on gear failure and the mechanism's associated with it. The article deals with the Kiwi snowstake we use over here and was brought about by an accident in which 3 Guides and 2 clients were killed in an avalanche on the East Face of Mt Tasman in New Zealand. For thos who don't know the kiwi snow state is a right angled piece if metal with offset holes and cut to a 45 degree angle and the base. It is useable as a Deadman - t slot and vertical snow stake and was adapted for use here in NZ where we often experience hard rain crusts and variable snow conditions due to the maratime climate. Snow Anchor Report http://www.verticalresources.org/...e=Snow_Anchor_Report Feedback on the site layout etc would also be appreciated along with additions and submissions of climbing info from around the world.
