Two words: High tops It's about time that retro styling came to the climbing world. There's a whole generation out there who have never even seen boot-style climbing shoes, let alone worn them. Full protection for your ankle bones from rock abrasion! Pretty soon, we can have local bouldering areas full of old-school new-schoolers, decked out in headbands, tank tops, and maybe eventually spandex. Fashion in climbing just moves forward all the time, so I think we're due for a little homage to the folks that really pushed the limits 25-30 years ago. You could call these shoes the T2 or T3 or something.

Probably we would need a somewhat lighter construction for the calf side of the leg... http://www.dracinabox.com/malesmeg.jpg

Okay, i want to play too. http://i30.photobucket.com/...KaylinR/rockshoe.jpg Why don't you try an aggressively down-lasted shoe. It needs opposing Velcro straps like the La Sportiva Katanas (best Velcro closure system ever). Lots of rubber over the toes with thick rands. I've yet to wear out the sole rubber on a climbing shoe. I always wear a hole in the rand far before the sole rubber becomes thin, so thick rands with rubber over the toe knuckles would be great. I'd also like to see some lower volume heels than companies like 5.10 offer. A little padding around the ankle and the upper heal for comfort, plus some thin padding over the toe knuckles so the tight fit is bearable without any "hot spots". I've had lots of perfect fitting and performing shoes that wore out really quickly because they didn't have thick rubber in the right spots. I've also had a few that had thick rubber in the right places, but they were so painful to wear or didn't stick to the rock well, so I just didn't use them. Good Luck!

In reply to: this is all just so damn weird i don't even know where to start. Well, at least the naming system is inadvertently appropriate. I will expect full royalties, of course

Pretty cool Conrad! If you get a pair of those in 9.0 or 9.5 let me know, I'd love to review them for you. Its hard to tell from the picture, but they look like they have lot of volume over the toes. For me, a down-lasted shoe has to have very little space above the toes to force the foot into the arched shape. Let me know if I can test some for you.

Now the high tops I would have to concur would be pretty cool. I do mainly alpine when I rock climb, and usually I don't bring a pack with me to the top. So when I'm rappelling back down to where we started, I always bang my heel and end up with sore feet. The old Kaukulators were the best, but alas the pair I owned mysteriously disappeared when I moved. Not sure if you remember those shoes or not. I'll try to put a sketch together.

:D Climber in TN would definitely be willing to review a pair. 10.5 or 11. I have a pair of "5.10's" size 11 and they are pretty comfortable now that they are broken in.
