A friend of mine wants to take a three to five day climbing road trip. I was thinking of Red River Gorge. He has limited experience, has never led, and I'm going to show him the ropes (pardon the pun). Does Red have trad? Easy stuff. 5.0 to 5.6 (at the hardest) that can be recommened. Or, sport of the same difficulty? One pitch routes (if sport) only please as I have very few draws being a "tradman". Otherwise, two pitches (if applicable) if there are trad routes. ALSO, WHERE TO CAMP? HOW MUCH ARE THE FOREST/PARK CAMPGROUNDS (OUT OF STATE FEE?)? Steve P.S. THANKS!!! There is lots of moderate trad lines in the red. go to miguels he has guide books. there are lots of climbers hanging around his place to get beta from. fall is the best time to climb there. there are also some easy sport climbs. fortess wall has the most moderate trad. dont hesitate in going there you will have a great time!!

miguels is on hwy 11 just before natural bridge state park. it is on the left side of the road as you are heading south on 11. take 64 from lexington to mtn pky to slade exit hwy11. miguels is just a few miles down the road. you can camp at miguels for a couple of bucks! 5.5 is about the easiest you will find. There is some other 5.6 and 5.7, but as you said 5.7 is higher that you want. There are some cracks that are 5.6 that are pretty freakin good.

Check out dip wall. If you stay at miquels you'll be able to check out a guide. Sue Sue suedo is the best damn 5.3 I've ever been on. Dimond in the crack is an awesome 2 pitch 5.6, bed time for bonzo is great (5.6). Miq's is $2 a night to camp, The red is $3 a night or three for $5. Road side's parking area is free, but I've heard there is a crazy local who hangs out there every now and again with a gun threating to shoot people.

Rat-Baby, I think that is Suess, Suess, Studio - keeping with the theme of the crag. There are quite a few 5.7 and under trad routes, and a couple 5.7 and under sport. Enough to keep you busy for a week or so. There are several threads on easy rrg trad at www.climbkentucky.com Wes
