Hello, I'll be driving over to Austin and want to climb (as much as possible!) Thanksgiving weekend. I lead 5.9-5.10a sport, 5.8 trad and will happily follow harder stuff. If anyone's interested, PM me. Trang

I mis-understood, thought you were talking about this weekend. Don't have any plans over T-day yet, really sketchy about going to Arizona, if not Urban Assault sounds just dreamy.

Well, I guess I am the 2nd Jason exchanging info (pms) with the Original Poster...but as I told her; I'm going to E-rock over thanksgiving. Me, my office mate and her boyfriend are going to be at E-rock from the 23-24/25 of November. They are most interested in bouldering, but I'd love to get some trad or other roped climbs in. I am horibly out of shape, but I still think I could get up a 5.6 Trad line, a 5.7/8 sport line and I'll try anything under a .10c on toprope. If anyone is going to be in/around E-rock over turkey day, please let me know. I'd love some more people to climb with. Jason

nurocks, AKA the Other Jason; I asked mom and she said it was ok to quote you this one time............. ERock will be excellant for Tday. Look for my friend Luke, aka luker, he knows all the chords. Trang, if granite calls your name then eRock is the spot. If overhanging limestone is good come see me and Austin Jason, maybe Shawn(southtextraveler), too.

I'm all about the granite. Limestone and its silly tendon tearing pockets don't like me very much. That and I've already booked a campsite for the 23rd - 24th. I'm hoping the weather is nice. Thanks, Jason

Hey guys, thanks all for the coordination--I checked out the route info for Urban Assault and while I love limestone the difficulty level on that crag's way over my head, so I think I'll try E-rock. Nurocks, I'll PM you on logistics of meeting up. Trang

Ahh, those ratings are way fluffed. But choosing ERock is probably a better first trip to Tx climbing IMHO, anyway!

Nurocks, I'll PM you on logistics of meeting up. Trang I will be out at Erock during the weekend after Thanksgiving if you need a partner or info. I would definetly recommend Erock although it depends on the type of climbing you want and/or enjoy. Erock is mostly cracks, slabs and crystal crimps as well as the only major granite area in central Texas. On the other hand there is some good limestone around Austin, but I would never recommend going to Urban Assualt (unless you are bored with everything else in Austin). Urban Assault is very very chossy and mostly manufactured routes. If you do want Limestone check out Reimers Ranch or even other areas at the Greenbelt. Let me know if you need any other info.

wyjames is dead on it there. Urban is NOT a good place get some Austin climbing. ERock ( especially this time of year) would be the best spot. More remote, more height, more rock, more variety. And excellent Texas landscape. There are well bolted sport climbs in Austin, check Seismic, Gus Fruh, even Georgetown, just north of Austin. But at almost all of those you can hear highway noise , as you are inside city limits. It's not all bad. Some of it is even real good. I'd still say ERock, if you have never been here before. It all depends on your mobility ( do you have wheels ?) your climbing style and how hard you want to climb. I think by now, from the responses this thread has received you and any one else in the area can see there is plenty of climbing to had in and around Austin. And there are plenty of locals who will help you find the routes you want. Eat lots of Turkey and come climb.

Hello I just got back from REI and I now have chalk and tape. Got my rack all ready to go...and now I'm just counting down the days. I'd like to know if anyone is definetely going to be in Erock over turkey day. As of now, my campsite is reserved for Nov 23 and Nov 24. I'll try to get there early evening on the 23rd...and climb on the 24th...and the morning of the 25th before heading back to Waco. Is anyone else commited to being there then, and wanting to climb w/ me and my friends? Please let me know so we can start communcating about anything that could be shared(food, beer, scotch, stoves, etc...) I'd appreciate a PM very much. Thanks a lot, Jason

It is all nice and relaxed over here eh? not so much chest thumping, I feel like I am in a cadilac when I am on this forum. Not like Seans smaller site, but a lot more impersonal over here.\ You guys see Tim and WY are here too!! and The Other Scott2: the noob I love it!! As for myself I will be working that weekend. I am going back to work in restaurants (Curras grill) so, I gotta work weekends now, but will be off around 2:00pm usually. So If the weather is nice and ytou wanna climb in the afternoon, hit me up
