from what I have seen any popular place on a busy day can compete with that percentage..... it does suck though. As a side note I saw one of hte most dangerous things I have seen in a while last weekend and the guy was spouting how he had just become "certified" to teach lead climbing..... whatever that means.

I can't speak for dingus, but due to the nature of what he said, I highly doubt it was meant as a personal attack (his 2nd one on the other hand....). (here is a clue to the nature of dingus' post: M.C Escher's stairs)

In reply to: about give or take maybe f---ing plus or minus 50% of the climbers i saw at jtree yesterday did not know what the hell they were doing. better? This is a little better than your original analysis, which is somewhat of an atomistic fallacy, or better yet, making an statistical claim based on personal experience (which is totally biased data). You maybe encountered 5%, at the most, of the climbers at Jtree. How could you possibly make a hypothesis about all climbers at Jtree on a given day based on such a small, biased sample? Anyways, you're probably right

Its not just J-tree, its everywhere. I used to live in the Gunks where we described a walk down the carriage road on any Saturday as a "comedy of terrors". But look around at any climbing area, how many people do you see giving a great belay, really working with they climber, making the climber's job that much easier etc? Really good belays are few and far between, scary belays are everywhere I admit that I'm suprised that there aren't more death and serious accidents in climbing.

If you spend enough time in these forums you'll know when Dingus is actually serious. I'm not going to explain, you will learn. then you'll know why it's kinda funny.
