Anyone know of any cheap accomodations on west side
of LV so that we can get to RR early and not fight traffic?

Cheap depends on the season. Bonnie Springs isn't NW, but it gives climbers a discount last time I checked, and it's right in Red Rocks. It's a theme hotel, you'll get a kick out of it... I'm assuming you want a hotel? Other than that, Arizona Charlies is ghetto but cheap. It's about a 15-20 minute drive to Red Rocks and it's closest to good food that isn't all chain oriented and expensive. Good luck!

There's a Holiday Inn on the corner of Durango and Sahara which isn't too far from RR.
In Downtown Las Vegas there are some very cheap hotels. Places like Lady Luck only cost forty or so bucks a night. Gold Nugget near the strip is often cheap.
Bonnie Springs is great, but sucks if you want to go out to dinner or anything like that. They serve breakfast, but not until eight or so. Last report I heard about that place, they screwed up the coffee. That's a pretty hard thing to screw up...

We were in Vegas last week... spent a couple of nights at the Gold Coast hotel for $50; plus they have a killer breakfast buffet for $6.95! Granted, it is somewhat 'inland' (Flamingo Rd just west of the I15), however travelling west on Flamingo to the I215, then heading north to Charleston and out to Red Rocks, was relatively painless in the morning... less than 30 minutes' drive.
Remember though, a trip to Red Rocks isn't quite complete without a night of shivering uncontrollably in a lightweight sleeping bag, while wearing every article of clothing in your pack, tossing and turning on a leaky therma-rest, listening to kangaroo rats skitter around the broken-zippered-door of an ancient dome tent...
