112 looking for climbing partners - ongoing thread

I felt I was hijacking the Walla Walla Introduction thread, and I liked the Front Range climbing partners - ongoing thread so much I wanted some where to post for parnters without starting a new thread each week.

10 day forecast for:

Smith Rock (Terrebonne, OR)
Frenchman Coulee (Vantage, WA)
Tieton River (Yakima, WA)

Who is up for some winter rock climbing?

Well, since you're posting, I'm up for most anything, although aid can be more fun in winter too so don't forget Squamish or Index. Drop me a PM, I'm in Seattle with a relatively open schedule (including weekdays, except for this weekend). Or try cc.com, I'm there too. ;-)

I am up for climbing Sunday out at Vantage or Tieton.

I am also on cc.com, but I have more luck here.

Is Index and Squamish really winter climbing destinations? I mean I am sure you can climb there throughout the year, but does it get warm enough to climb in a T-shirt during the winter?

112,

There is snow on the ground from Yakima all the way up the Tieton. The rock is dry, but the temps. have been 10-25 degrees (BRRRRRRRR!). Smith is going to be as cold if not colder than the Tieton, but I like your style. Hardcore, rain or shine; melt or freeze. I'm training in my basement until it warms up and the NEW Central WA University climbing gym opens up in Ellensburg. My climbing partner and I will hook you up with the Tieton secrets when the temps increase.

Definatley look forward to climbing out a Tieton with you Yakiman once we get a nice weekend!

I am not hard core, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. :)

If the forecast for this weekend gets much worse I am going to have to just go climb at the Portland Rock Gym. I am headed there Friday night anyways.

*My most hard core winter weekend at Smith my partner and I slept under the stars in Feburary with the nightime low around 20 F. Brr that was cold. My partner's hair was frozen when we woke up! I brought my bivy sack, he didn't. hehe. We aided the West Face route on Monkey's Face in a snow storm. He led, I jugged. Dam that was a good time!*

Hey Yakiman, didn't mean to leave you all alone there. Index probably gets too much snow, but Squamish has a winter history. Maybe no t-shirts, but hey, you can aid climb in a parka just fine. ;-)

I'm often up for Vantage or Smith though, just not this weekend. PM me or keep the thread going.

Smith forecast is looking good for this weekend. I am planning on being out there Sunday even if I just hike and boulder.

Anybody want to rope up?

Darn this weather is lookin' nice. Probably skip out and head to the UW rock in a bit.

OlympicMntBoy I would be down if you wanted to go out to index one of these days. I have only intentionally aid climbed once but i do have a set of jugs and lead 5.9 or 5.10-(on a good day) at index.

I also talked to some people who were bouldering at goldbar last week and said it was descent (I've never been).

Anyhow, if anybody in seattle can drive (cause I can't) I've got a great rack or could even rustle up a couple of pads.

Hey Ryanb, let's do it then. Someone was aid soloing there a few days ago according to CC.com. Do you have the guidebook? I need to pick one up somewhere. I drove by there on the way to Leavenworth yesterday (Hubba Hubba ice was in) and there wasn't much snow. It would be fun to play around on the lower wall on something. I'm free on and off on weekdays and next weekend is still sorta open if nothing bigger comes up.

Chech out: http://www.stanford.edu/~clint/index/ Clint Cummins has put about 80 percent (all the pages containing 4 star routs) of his 'index town walls' guide book online which is great because you can print out just the pages you need.

I've got an old hard copy of that book and could borrow 'sky valley rock' from a housemate if we decide to wander off into the relm of new routs or obscurities but headen up to the lower walls and aid/freein' (dependin on conditions...the weathers and ours) some classics some time next week would be awesome. I work flexible hours so with enough warning almost any day would be good. I'll pm you my contact info.

So I'll be coming back from college to Portland for winter break and I'm looking for someone to climb with. Trad, sport, bouldering (even if I suck at it), alpine, it's all good. I especially feel the need to get on beacon rock at least once, and maybe a trip down to smith. Coming from Minnesota it sould be nice and warm.

triggerhappy (or anybody else) - i just moved to pdx, and am pretty free from the 23rd to the 28th (including Christmas). One of the reasons i moved out here was to explore the alpine possibilities in the cascades, but i'm up for most outdoor climbing endeavors (prefer trad/alpine, or maybe even some easy aid in this chilly weather??). I would like to climb a volcano that week - any interest out there??

davidio, if you haven't already done so, check out the forums on http://www.cascadeclimbers.com
there are a number of people on there that climb Hood pretty regularly, and other Partner requests for alpine climbs in the area.

Cheers

FYI - I climbed most of the day in a t-shirt (sunny and mid-fifties) at Frenchman coulee with two other walla wallans on Wednesday January 11. We had the whole place to ourselves! If it is sunny and above 40 degrees and the winds are light, it's perfect for climbing there. Click on the link below and you can get near real time weather data from the Wash. Dept. of Trans. weather station at the Silica Rd. exit.

http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/weather/ccwea.aspx?station=1987&id=dt

The WA DOT site also has three web cams near the coulee, one at Silica Rd. and two at the Vantage bridge.

Bottom line: If you monitor the weather closely enough around here, you never have to go for more than a few weeks without climbing.

Okay here's the deal:

Tomorrow is forecasted to be STELLAR! Yes T-shirts will be worn comfortably. Yes the sun will be glaring. And, yes I am currently without a climbing partner. I've got all the gear. You can even borrow a pair of climbing shoes if your feet are size 9.5-10 mens. I just want to get out and have fun.

Anyone?

Hey Ken! What's up?

Im planning a road trip this spring. You interested in joining me at all? Could use a red rocks, city of rocks, veda partner.

Sorry I missed you when you came back but I think I was either commuting to Denver or actually moving up here.
