to the left of the road, we stopped and found a ton more sandstone boulders and was wondering if that was private property or what looked like a mining area? Not sure but there is alot of boulders there and some good climbing. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

I'm not sure about the boulders on the way there but you may want to check out a place called Cathedral Canyon that is kind of close the there, I think that it is in the Geologic Mysteries and Curiosities of Mo. There hasn't been very much development there but myself and my friend have been out there quite a few times and it has a ton of potential, most of it is riolite. Even if you're not impressed with the bouldering it's a beautiful place and it's worth hiking through.

mrpunch - that sounds cool. i'll have to check those out when we get a decent weekend. there are tons of boulders in missouri, people just need to get out and explore.

ozone - did you bolt the chossy cliff out at cathedral? that is such an amazing place, it has more of a wilderness fell than anywhere else i've been to in MO. have you found any other worthy area for bouldering around there?

The place was like 5 minutes on the left side after you take a left to go to Johnsons Shut Ins. The place is as big or bigger then Elephant Rocks. I walked all around back there and still didnt reach the end of the boulders. Its close to a mobile home(to the left) and a house(to the right) and looked like someone had mined there awhile ago. The place would need cleaned up (moss and shit) and is in the woods but has the same lay out as Elephant Rocks. The potential there is good (V0-V12ish?) and there is some stellar lines I saw just walking through and climbing. I live 3 hours away in springfield, so its hard for me to get there every weekend, but I think the locals should check it out and see it for themselves. Next time I come to the E Rocks (when its warmer) I will climb there and ask around about the area.

Joek-though the best climbing in Missouri is clearly on plastic, I am up for an early spring scouting and property rights mission. But, Kaarrie and Asher need to come along and woo the locals for us.

Thhh- the best climbing in Missouri might be plastic, if the gym here had any good routesetters.

Sounds like the stuff is on private property, better get out the ninja suit.

The ninja suit sounds like a good plan, thats what I had to do. The people of Ironton are some scary cats....reminded me of Texas Chainsaw. Hopefully though whoever owns the land will allow climbing, good luck.

HEY! I resent that remark, I was raised in Ironton. I'll look into this next month if there's any other places there that you are curious about let me know, I'll look into it when I'm home.

P.S. I know this is 4 years old but unless the resevoire collapse washed them away I bet they're still there. ;)
