I like seneca better, but then again trad is my thing. The New is cool though. If you go to Seneca, make sure you climb Extacy. It's CLASSIC!

the new is nice, but it's been done, y'know? I loved the beautiful area around seneca, and if you want to be in the current events of climbing, go to nelson rocks. http://www.nelsonrocks.org/ got a huge and cool via ferrata, newly developed climbing areas, some of the best hiking i've ever done, and you can hit it and seneca while you're there! feel free to PM me, i've been to both places. I'm a big fan of WV climbing!

the New was great... amazing rock, heaps of trad climbs (one-pitch but great anyways), nobody on any of them. I climbed at Central Endless Wall and i don't think I saw anyone on any other trad climb, save for the two other climbers in our group. It was great. Seems like every handcrack had a nice fat overhang to finish (eg. Just Jam It) and even Crescent Crack wasn't half bad (although I'd take more BigBros and I'd try to lieback it if I did it again... I screwed up and faced the wrong way for the top half of it, d'oh). I'm going up to Nelson tomorrow, Seneca on Sunday, Gunks next weekend, and probably NC as soon as it cools down, but I *really* liked the New. If you go to Seneca again you should do Soler and Marshall's Madness. (and if you haven't done West Pole do that for sure too) [ This Message was edited by: jabbeaux on 2002-08-09 21:31 ]

South Pillar has some great climbs on it.... There is a good guide book by Tony Barnes.....There are two climbing shops there that will have it.

I would say go to the New river. While seneca is one of my favorite places i have ever been to the New is so huge you might want to make the first trip ther just to get to know your way around. That way your second weekend can be spent more on the climbing and less on the guidebook searching.

i would go to the new! the climbing is much better. to much choss @ seneca and nelson. fayetteville is a much better scene than seneca. seneca is full of posers or guides who hog all the routes. the NRG is so huge you never see anyone else...
