Howdy All! There has been a lot of talk about holding a gathering in City of Rocks this October. So, here is the official post. The finalized dates are Thursday, October 3rd to Monday, October 7th. Obviously if you want to come early/stay late that is an option. We had previously discussed the 10th to the 14th, but I was mistaken, the University of Utah Fall Break is actually from the 3rd to the 6th. I will be happy to do all of the organizing that I am able to do. Please address any questions/concerns in this thread and I will do my best to get answers and solutions. I'm also open to anybody else who wants to help with the planning, as I have never actually been there but live close enough that I can probably do some 'reconning' and get as much beta as I can. Let's get some input and a rough 'role call' so that this post doesn't get locked up. Thanks all, see you in October! -Tony [ This Message was edited by: nailzz on 2002-08-10 12:22 ] [ This Message was edited by: nailzz on 2002-08-10 12:28 ]

Camping So apparently there is both free and fee camping available. It sounds like Mike knows the scoop on the free camping. Can you post the info on that Mike? Here's the scoop on the fee sites: Day use and entrance fees Free! Group Camping $59/minimum One Time There is a $25 reservation fee and $2/per person per night camp fee. A minimum of 17 people are required to reserve a group site. Maximum group size varies. Contact the reserve for more information. Single Use Camping $7.00 Day The camping fee for one vehicle and one site is $7 per night. Five dollars ($5) is charged for an extra vehicle. A maximum of two vehicles, 8 people, and two tents are allowed at a single site. Reservations are not mandatory but may be made by calling 1-208-824-5519. It sounds like the free camping may be the way to go, though ...

Those group sites are west of the bread loafs and can be very windy and cold. Lets look at the free camping area. Also we can reserve several sites ahead of time which I would recomend for a weekend. That place fills up quick. I think anne has some premo spots in mind. John

I'm all for free, I like free, free is good. You think we'll need reservations in windy, windy October still? I guess it's better to be safe. NO EPICS!!! EPICS ARE BAD!!!! Well, at least until you get safely back onto the ground and get to brag to all your friends about the time you almost died climbing. Then they're cool and make great drinking stories.

are you asking for an opinion?...sure...reserve one site...lets make it site # 51(i think)...first site to the right (when facing) the bathrooms in front of bath rock...lots of parking there and a little sheltered and a lot of space, private; can cook in that boulder formation (that looks like dino's dog house on the flintstones) and it will also keep the sun off the coolers...great place for lunch...and central meeting spot for non campers.....not to mention the potty sooooooo close. There is slabage at the city. If we reserve campsites try to get at least 2-3 together. Annes selection is a great spot. But there are others. Tony we need to make a day trip and get beta on cool camp sites and of course get a couple of climbs in. I know a cool 4 pitch that we could do. John

Quote: Tony we need to make a day trip and get beta on cool camp sites and of course get a couple of climbs in. I know a cool 4 pitch that we could do. John Sounds great to me. Can we do it in one day, or an overnighter? I'd say maybe drive up Friday afternoon/evening and leave Saturday night or Sunday morning. Climb Saturday and drive around for campsite and other beta. Let's start making some definite plans for dates when you get back from the Tetons. And what's the name of the climb you have in mind? I wanna look it up if it's in the guidebook. Quote: there are only a few good sights...i say we forget the wind...if we are going with groups...it's gonna be 120.00 for the trip....go with 1 and take the trip and see which one i chose...#51???? i adore #43, but it is way exposed...surprise me, but make sure we have coffee .... We will definitely look at 51 and 43. I plan on scouring the area as much as possible. There's a minimum of 17 people to get the group site. We WILL have coffee!!! I'm not familiar with the situation with Mike ... ???? I count 8 also, including the maybes right now. It won't be a huge gathering, but neither was Yosemite. It was the perfect size if you ask me. Edit: I can count .... honest I can. [ This Message was edited by: nailzz on 2002-08-10 23:00 ]
