Hi there, my brothers are quite big climbers and as a mockup magazine im writing an article on indoor climbing. Essentially ive got most of it together, lots of basics about climbing but i need some help.

Im gonna hopefully put quite a big pic of really well known or influential climber. I read another thread on here about "famous climbers" and it was more than a little bit overwhelming for newcomers, i was wondering if someone could just tell me who is arguably the most famous AND more importantly, someone who i can find very large images of.

Terrible question i know, but this forum seems nice so i thought id ask.

Also, if anyone can think of "Top Tips" for beginners at indoor climbing centres that would be great. Only one ive got so far is, dont wear jeans.

Tom

No Jeans? Explains why I am not a big climber...

Did you ask your brothers? I would like to hear their list - post up for feedback!

Oh, and if you are starting to climb indoors ... take a basic course, check your knots, don't train every day and stay in school. Winners chose their drugs carefully.

follow instructions and be patient
I don't like indoor climbing, I like to be with nature and I don't like climbing around a lot of people (which is what happens at the gyms around here, AZ).

These guys may not be the most famous ever, but are probably the most famous of today, and you'll find tons of photos. Chris Sharma and Tommy Caldwell.

Ah, 2 posts. That explains it all.

How about Fred Beckey, Royal Robbins, or Ray Jardine?

Anyway thanks for the replies, i'll check out some of those guys; hopefully i can find a few images! Any other tips?

Some of the best climbers in Yosemite post WW2 where Robbins, Whittaker, Harding, and Pratt. More modern era is Lowe Alex and Jeff, Anker, Gill, Beckley, Sherman, long, Bacher and Hill. All have had long and lustrous climbing careers with lot of public and media exposure that are easily searched on Google with there last manes. Climbing has a long and rich history, which has many faces and nationalities. Most of the names I have mentioned got there names in or are from the Untied States.

No Jeans - they tend to restrict your leg movement.

:D haha, depends on the jeans yall, i agree in part:many times jeans are not my favorite for climbing :? , my personal favorite for climbing apparel is a good tshirt and a pair of good combat pants 8^) (they have extremely good movement, work great for climbing between the durability and flex), but if you get jeans that fit right, theyll do the trick ok;then again, maybe its jus me, i wear jeans every day almost, so i know how to manipulate them

I think for recognition value and ease of finding pictures Sharma and Caldwell were good recommendations.

for a list of recommendations:
stretch before and after
warm up on easier climbs
keep straight arms
keep your weight on your feet

RE: No jeans

There used to be a late teens/early 20's female climber on the comp circuit in the US about five years back who used to wear jeans during comps. She wasn't in the top three, but she did climb in the finals if I remember correctly. I seem to recall her name was Shauna or something like that.
