While climbing on the Stumbling Blocks on 12/17/05, I found a way to mess with the branches of a leafless plant. A few days later I broke out with a bad rash of urushiol oil (poison oak). Be careful in this area and please know that the vines and roots of this plant have a lot more of the urushiol oil than the leaves do. In the winter when the leaves have fallen, it is much harder to identify. I'm now happily on steroids and about 4 over the counter anti-itch meds. It should run its course in 16 to 18 days. But the climbing was great!!!

We had a run in with the nasty poison oak in January on our way to Mt. Gorgeous from stumbling blocks. If you stay close to the most eastern wall, and ON THE TRAIL you will not run into it if careful. We started bushwhacking cause we were clueless and thats the only reason why we ran into it. So, stay on the trails, and keep your eyes peeled.

Haha I'm currently sitting next to my friend while she tries not to rip the skin off her leg... she got it by the Stumbling Blocks at Malibu! This must be one heinous plant...

i am highly allergic, or at least i was, in elementary school. had it so bad my face swelled up and i couldn't go to school. they put me on some crazy horse pill steroids. also, rubbing the inside of banana peels on the rash helps to control the itching, and it sooths...can't remember if it makes the rash go away or just keeps it from spreading. i just remember loving bananas during that mess...

Good God do I hate Poison Oak. I was on vacation in Arizona, down from Alaska where I live. While scramblin around in the magical Tonto Natural bridge area in hundred plus degree weather I had the unfortunate need to go crap. As I was only wearing shorts I just used the old standard wipe your butt with leaves method until I could get to water to wash myself up better. !DO NOT WIPE YOUR ASS WITH POISON OAK! I was sad for weeks and we were road tripping back up to Alaska. NO AC and one of the hottest summers on record. Worst thing ever. Know your flora!

There is this stuff called "ZANFEL"...you should check it out. It's about $40 for a tube of it, but if the stuff works, then you can charge that much, can't you?...so it must work. I've used it, and it's the only thing I've ever heard of that works. They claim it actually breaks the chemical bond between the urushiol and your skin. As far as I can tell, it actually does...it's worked for me. Oh yeah, one tube will last you awhile...mine has lasted through three separate outbreaks over a couple years.

Poison Oak is some nasty stuff! It is what God had in mind when he told Adam that "Cursed is the ground because of you, Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you". Try these products for relief, Technu Skin Cleasener and Cala-Gel Anti-Itch Gel. They are both made by Oak-N-Ivy Brand. Killer good stuff! Also I used to take Poison Oak extract which would make you imune to the stuff for like six months. It sold under the name of Otox. The stuff was a liquid that came in 2 vials of 1cc each. I still have some of the stuff You just drank this stuff two weeks before exposure. It was manufactured by Riker Laboratories, Northridge, CA. 91321. Good luck!
