artm, hangerlessbolt, toobigtoclimb, truedecker, stinky_lizard, i.karen, rrrADAM, froggy, betaflash, Dr Bob, and friends met up to climb the pumpy overhung sandstone of Malibu Creek. Stayed in the shade, and climbed till the hands couldn't take the sharp pockets anymore. Pics to come.

Actaully Adam, Malibu Creek is Volcanic Breccia. Very similar in climbing style to sandstone, but actually is a closer geological cousin of Volcanic Tuff (think Smith Rocks). Try Texas Canyon, Stoney Point, or Devil's Punchbowl for SoCal Sandstone.

Unfortunatly, I arrived just after the last possible belayer was leaving Malibu. I still managed to get in four of the easier routes in, though not without some issues. I hope to actually climb with some of those above-mentioned people soon! A ps. word of advice; don't bother with Texas Cyn, unless you like climbing on solidified mud cakes!

It was another good trip. Met up with my long-time climbing partners, Brian and Bob. We warmed up on a 5.9…then headed up a gully to lead a 5.10a and a 5.10b/c. I truly enjoy climbing with these guys. Then we headed over to Ghetto Wall to meet up with the others. After an interesting traverse over water…we got set to climb. The draws were already up on skeezer pleaser 5.11b and though this would be my hardest lead to date, I figured why not. Roped up with Bob on belay and cast off. Made the first four clips up to a small cave…I high-stepped with my left foot and leaned my shoulders against the inside wall. This worked really well, allowing a no hands rest…until my foot popped out which sent the rest of me flailing backwards…smashing the back of my head on the way out and shredding my elbow on the way down. I batman’d my way up to the last draw and clipped in to rest…and shake the cobwebs out. With some coaching from below…I worked the crux moves of the route. Pulling the final bouldery section. I thanked Bob for the life-saving catch…and sat down to rest. The adrenaline rush had left me absolutely drained. I hopped on a 5.10a and had to hang halfway up…I was so fried. We left there and headed back down stream up to an area that I had climbed previously. It was a 5.11a and I couldn’t even get on it. Bummed at the fact that my body had given out before my mind did…I settled for watching and belaying. I would like to thank Amy and Karen for the critter in my shoe. *smile* Adam and Art for constant belittlement. Bob, Brian, and Joe for just being awesome people! Great People, Great Site, Great fun! *Peace* ~Hanger

is that an elephant in your pack or are you just happy to see me? p.s Hanger made a good choice in not doing the 11a.....I led it a second time and had no juice left either. Ended up flailing badly on a great route

I hit the gym last night...and was still wasted! While Art, on the other hand, was cruising some 10d/11a lead routes.
