Just wondering when is a good time of year for Reimers Ranch and Barton Creek.
Is December too cold?
Are these two areas worth checking out on the way to Hueco?
Austin sounds like a cool place to hang out for a few days.

Austin is defnitely a cool place to visit, as well as live! Not sure about the best times to go to Reimer's, but it's Texas so it's not like it gets cold during the winter.

if you are going to hueco, i am going to assume you boulder. if you are in austin, and boulder, skip the sport climbing. it is ok, but not that great. check out mckinney falls, a very unique and fun bouldering area right in town. lots of steep and powerful bouldering, easy access, scenic place.

if are really in the mood to sport climb, go to reimers.

winter temps for climbing are perfect in texas, as long as it is not too wet of a winter.

Umm....let me think..... YES.

Reimer's is awesome. HOT humid summers, mild-but-sometimes-cold & rainy winters, best time is Spring and Fall. Superb sport climbing from 5.easy to 5.impossible.

If you happen by during the Summer, hit up the deep water bouldering/soloing at Pace Bend Park (See my profile).

I personally have not heard to many good things about McKinney. The main bitches I've heard are 1). awkward, powerful, tweaky problems 2). Severe overrating 3). Few problems that go less than V3. I've never been, but I hear this all the time. You will probably find it an awesome place if you climb the harder grades.

No matter what level climber you are there's amazing climbing out at Reimer's, easily enough to make a visit far more then worthwhile. Unless you can onsight 5.14 you'll walk away having had a great day of climbing. Find a topo though, or someone that knows the walls and what not. The weather has been beautiful this winter, there's maybe been like 5 days total when I've actually needed a sweater, so no fears, Texas doesn't have winters, our seasons go Spring, Summer, Summer +, Fall.

I think ya meant to say sandbagging.

OP: Expect to climb grades at Mckinney a number or two below what you can do in Hueco. But if you are into bouldering, Mckinney is definitely worth the stop---it is true, pure power climbing. Just don't hurt yourself on the way to Hueco---that would suck.

If you sport also, at Reimer's there are plenty of short power endurance climbs that are lots of fun. Right now is the best time of year to climb there. The House of Pain wall and Sex Canyon are where the highest quality routes are.

Oh and Barton Creek is uber-polished choss. Don't bother unless you are just bored and want to sport climb somewhere in town.

Austin is a great place to visit, especially Reimers, but I'm not quite sure if it's on the way to hueco, They are about 600 miles apart. But if Austin is on your way, there's plenty of quality sport climbing.

Barton Creek? Polished? Blasphemy. hehe. weather's pretty nice. been out a couple times this week and it's stayed between the 60s and 70s during the day. Reimer's is definitely worth checking out for some nice sport climbs due to the fact that everything isn't polished like barton creek.

Thanks for all the beta.
Is there camping near Reimer's, and/or close to Austin?
