you caught the most static pose in a dyno
try to catch the dyno split second before the deadpoint. If you want to go for the deadpoint, showing the face and strain to hold on works very well.

i would also crop out the branches at the bottom

i hardly noticed the branches but that might be good idea. there is a large variation i exposure also, i think that is what bothers me the most

I'm undecided on the branches. On one hand, they do kind of distract. On the other, that extra inch or so seems to give just a little more height to the image.

Face would be better - tell bob to dyno with his other arm :D. Seems just a little out of focus, but that could be my eyes. Good capture overall, IMO.

Next time tell Bob to have his feet peel off, that'll make it more action packed. I agree with Melekzek about face and timing etc. Time to get that 20FPS reflex camera...

I'd keep the same photo ratio by cropping the branches and some space left and right. Make sue you keep the mountain backdrop uncut. it gives a nice situational landmark, for height.

Besides being static (3 points of contact) and his arm awkwardly placed over his face, I'm bothered by the incongruity between his sparse clothing and all the snow in the shade. That makes it look... unnatural.

I was actually going for kind of that "unnatural" look, thats why i tried to shoot it from this angle even though it meant the arm in face thingy, i was trying to capture the contrast between the snow in the shade on the south side of the canyon and the warm quartzite of the north side of AF, i guess if its wierding you out could you think of a way that i could maybe soften the contrast?

Well... when I said "unnatural," I meant "obviously posed." So, for starters, if you're going to have a photo sesh for the sake of photos, at least put "the talent" in wardobe that matches the scene.

it actually wasn't posed, it really was that warm on the north side of the canyon and we had just finished with a rather strenous approach so we were all rather hot at the time. I guess i'll work on the clothing though if that really will help...?

Well, I will say this about dressing the talent:

Look at the top photos on this site. How many of those people do you think just HAPPENED to pick out red pants and yellow shirts that morning?

Point taken.... I'll work on that, should be a challenge, i'm a colorblind teenager who has to have his sister choose out what he wears for his date that night!
