From my memory, it is 35 miles from the Valley to the meadows. Am I off here? 16 miles up to Crane Flat/Yosemite Institute, then another 19 or 20 to Tenaya Lake? (and yes I know the road is closed).

It's about 55-60 miles depending on where you start in the Valley. Crane Flat to Tuolumne is 41 miles (a few miles shorter to Olmsted).

Mileage? As in, road miles? Or backcountry miles? If it's the latter, I don't think it's anymore than 25-30 miles. But if you're planning on walking the John Muir trail that goes from the Meadows to the Valley....don't go backwards. Going up out of the valley on the same trail is CRAPPY! i made the mistake of doing that. my legs fell off and i had a heart attack and i died.
