Hey all, I'll be in the City for business tomorrow on my usual gym night. Which gym would be best for a bouldering session? I was just going to shove my shoes in my briefcase, but all the websites make it sound like the City gyms are route oriented... I was originally thinking City Climbers Club, but I can't figure out if there is much bouldering. Anyway, I'll be in Midtown so anything that's a short walk/cab ride away will work. PS I'm old and out of shape so I'm not looking for "rad" problems...

Go to Manhattan Plaza Health Club on 43rd and 10th ave. There is a rock gym on the top level which has a good bouldering room (best in the city other than chelsea piers). If you go to their website you could print out a free pass http://www.mphc.com/schedule/freeworkout.html This way you could climb for free and if you want to use the rest of the facilities afterwards you can: they have an indoor pool w/ 2 hot tubs...which may come in handy for an old guy like yourself after pulling down a few "rad" problems :D If you have any questions shoot me an email. I look forward to trying out this wall (I'm currently a member of the 59th St. gym - which isnt anything special), but just to correct a previous post...the coupon is no longer valid, and wasn't good for the climbing wall anyway.

Actually my buddy used the coupon 2 weeks ago and got all access for free, including the climbing area. That's just one instance, it may not work for everyone...only one way to find out.

Thanks for the theads up on the Manhattan Plaza. I saw their website, but couldn't tell if they really had any bouldering. I'll probably try heading down there to work on some sick proj, yo!
