Anybody know when the NPS is planning on moving the parking lot at Lumpy? Where will the new parking lot be located? What is everybody's opinion on the move - good or bad?

They haven't moved it yet... When they do move it, it will add about a mile to the approach... I thought that it was slated for this year, but nothing has happened so far. I think that when it is all finished it will be a bigger parking lot, so there is some good with the bad. What's up with RMNP making life difficult for climbers lately? Between Lumpy and the road to Bear Lake... Progress I guess...

I remember someone pushing around quite a bit of dirt to the east of the Twin Owls parking area. I thought that was going to be the new parking lot, but it turned out to be a small resevoir (I could be out to left field on this one, I got a glimpse of it from the top of Sundance last weekend). Anyway, I thought the parking lot was going to be east of the Twin Owls trail head. IMHO, it sucks. I feel that the real reason the Ranch is trying to cutoff the traditional parking area is to reduce traffic, etc. However, coming up with hokey justifications such as "vibrations from cars are damaging the buildings" implies that their actions are completetly selfish. Yes, it is "their" land, but there should be some concessions for access to "our" national park. For some light reading: http://www.climbingboulder.com/..._parking_trails.html

In reply to: What's up with RMNP making life difficult for climbers lately? Between Lumpy and the road to Bear Lake... Progress I guess... The issue at Lumpy isn't the park, it's the greedy, Macgregor trustee's. Those F-cker's refused to attend any of the meeting about what was going to happen, they just said nope it's going to be our way. They forget how the park sevice bailed them out a few years ago to the tune of several MILLION dollars. They even want the park to move the Black canyon trail farther up onto the hillside!! I'd sure like to meet one of these trustee's some time.... Side note...this is not the people who actually live at and work the ranch.... josh
