I'm moving to downtown Seattle for the summer (internship) and I'm looking for a gym membership. Stone Gardens and Vertical World are just about equidistant from the appartments I'm looking into, so distance is not a relative factor. Which one(s) are you a member at? Does one favor toward bouldering/sport/etc. more than the other? What other amenities do they offer (weights, lockers/showers, yoga, etc.)? Do either have strong communities who climb outdoors too? What are their summer operating hours? Late night? Stone Gardens gives a lot more information on their websites, but that's all I have to go off of right now. Obviously I'll spend at least one day at each before making my final decision, but it'd be nice to have some prior beta.

Which one(s) are you a member at? neither Does one favor toward bouldering/sport/etc. more than the other? never been to Vertical World; Stonegardens is about 65% bouldering and 35% routes. They have a lead roof though. I've heard, as in, I'm talking out of my ass, that their bouldering is loads better than their routes. Their bouldering is pretty good, and somewhat varied. Oh they have a small weight training area too. Hours are pretty extensive (I think they close at 11).

Vertical World has a decent sized lead wall and some pretty fun roped climbs. Stone Gardens is much more bouldering oriented.

One thing that you might take into consideration: I believe at Vertical World you must belay off an anchored gri-gri.

Stone Gardens = better bouldering Vertical World = better lead/top rope routes Not sure about Stone Gardens, since I'm a member of the VW: 1. VW has weights, showers, and lockers. 2. No yoga. 3. A lot of people I know there climb outdoors as well. 4. Not sure of their summer hours; better to be outside! 8^) KC
