I'm having a really great weekend, relaxing, reading and being somewhat productive, despite not climbing and being somewhat jealous of our bretheren lucky enough to be at the RRR this weekend. Friday night I took myself out for the evening. I got a haricut. This ended up being a huge deal!!!! I've been wearing my hair the same way for over 6 years! I finally changed it up and got a new style and perhaps to a guy it would seem silly, but I tell you what, new 'do, new attitude!!!! Many of you probably know that I went through a pretty depressing break-up a few weeks ago. After the break-up, I found myself single again and again facing one of my worst fears: being alone the rest of my life. But I'm learning that you create the thing you fear the most. I went out Friday, got a fabulous new 'do, so then I feel totally fabulous and then I took myself out to dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant. I've gone to dinner by myself plenty of times before, but I always bring a book to hide behind. But this was more impromptu, so I had no book this time. But instead of sitting there feeling lonely, I was actually giddy because the whole experience made me think about all the potential in my life. I love to travel and go on climbing trips, I'm hoping that sometime soon I'll be able to take myself on a couple month climbing road-trip. Surely, I'll be dining alone plenty during that time, so I was sitting there thinking about being out West and all the cool places I could be dining and having fun imagining what fabulous climbing destination I was off to next. I don't know, it was just fun. Which is not what most people would expect from having dinner by themself!!!! So right now, I don't fear being lonely or never finding anyone to be with. I'm too excited about all the cool adventures in store for me to be afraid of it. And I'm learning that I will never trully be alone. There are wonderful people the world over to get to know and I am blessed with a wonderful family and friends as well. And of course, the biggest lesson of all- that you've gotta believe that you deserve everything you want. Amazing how a new haircut can really help achieve that. Best $40 I ever spent!!!!! :D

Good for you! It really is amazing what a huge weight a new haircut lifts off of you. When I get a good one, my whole walk changes. Post up pics--of the cut and the attitude--so we can see the new you :)

Sounds like you had a great night! Fantastic. I love taking myself out sometimes or traveling alone. Good for you. You know, not everyone can be by themselves... I have a friend who can't do anything alone. I think it is because she can't stand herself. It is sad. Anyway, it is a gift to enjoy your own company. Have a great time!

At the risk of sounding cliche, you go girl!! Sorry to hear about the break up, but it seems you are dealing with it in the best way possible. Isn't it amazing how something that would seem so irrelevant can actually have so much power? Others can only love you as much as you love yourself, so keep takin care of you  I wanna see pics of the cut too!!

Random thought, but you should consider writing a book. It's inspirational to read about your progress (even the baby steps) towards eventual happiness. :D

you go girl.... keep in mind... your biggest enemy and your worst nightmare is yourself.. If you tell yourself you can do it.. then you will make it... Life is too too short and there are too many things to see and experience out there.... Enjoy your life and climb on

Climbingbetty- where do you live and where do you think you would go on your roadtrip? I'm always looking for cool women to climb with. Any interest in something in Zion this spring?

As a guy weighing in, you are definately cute (old do, new do and weird do) so I wouldn't worry too much about being single for the rest of your life. But do enjoy it while you are. Being with somebody is awesome but there is something to say about being single.

In reply to: Aimee- I'm going to be in Red Rocks in April. I have to start classes again May. I don't know if you'd want to climb with me though- I'm a *chiropractic student.*   We could have some good debates while we're climbing ;) But, seriously, I could be interested in meeting you in RR. When in April? And what kind of stuff are you thinking of climbing?

Right now it's looking like I'm going to be in Moab during that time, but if plans change, I will let you know. My trad leading tops out at about 5.10, so we could definately do some trad routes together.

Spray hijack because comet's too modest: She led her first JTree 5.9, even without a new haircut, and I sandbagged her into Dogleg (which everyone knows is .9+) the next day. w00t! hahaha

Girl, lemme tell ya... Your hair can really change your personality. Sometimes it's fun to just cut it off. (Not like, allll off. but ya know) One time I decided to just chop it off. I did like a cute little spiky thing. I must say, it made me feel more confident. And I am soooo into the wash N go thing right now. Nothing in more beautiful than natural.
