I'm suprized no one else has posted this but apparently today Trango announced a recall on some of the #1 Max Cams.

Recall Info from Trango

This only pertains to the 0605 and 0705 batch numbers of the #1. All other batches are unaffected. Anyone with cams from that batch should discontinue use immediately and return them to the address listed on the link above.

It appears that a axle rivet was out of spec on some cams.

TRANGO

RECALL NOTICE

#1 MaxCam
Batch Numbers: 0605, 0705
27 March 2006

http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/...a/500/6299maxcam.JPG

After receiving a defective unit from a climber in the field, in-house inspection and testing has revealed that a small number of our # 1 MaxCams have head axle rivets that do not meet the minimum specified diameter, possibly resulting in failure of the cam assembly. This flaw affects only the red #1 MaxCam with Batch Numbers 0605 and 0705 that were sold in 2005 and 2006. All other cams are unaffected and you can continue to use them with confidence.

Please discontinue the use of #1 MaxCams from Batch Numbers 0605 and 0705 from use immediately and return them according to the instructions below. We highly recommend that you use UPS or FedEx so that you have a tracking number.

Via UPS/FedEx or other package service:

TMI/Trango
Freeport Center F-11
Clearfield, UT 84016

Via US Mail (USPS)

TMI/Trango
PO Box 160470
Clearfield, UT 84016

We will inspect and repair or replace your MaxCams within three business days and return them to you. Mark each cam with a return address, a phone number and an email where we can reach you if we have questions.

We are truly sorry for any inconvenience. Please call us at 800/860-3653 or visit our website at http://www.trango.com if you have any further questions.

Climb Safe,

Malcolm Daly, Director

dont shit on people folks. Your words here are more powerful than that, so don't mess around and hurt someone in the process. CCH knows what they did is working to fix it. A good person would see that and not kick someone while they are down.

Oh ye, this thread is about Trango right?????

I'd like to thank Trango for what appears to be a fast response.

When Wild country recalled the Heliums right after it came out because of a small number of nose problems, it only improved their standing and increased their integrity in my eyes. They were all over fixing any problem by being proactive.

My rack is now primarilly Heliums.

Thanks for the fast heads up. I'll try to return my as yet unclimbed #1 back real soon.

And thanks for the translation JH.

Bill

Are you seriously trying to say that this is even remotely close to the CCH issues? Come on CCH has dropped the ball on so much and has been caught making false accusations, false advertising, improper quality assurance, and even had an office worker send out a cam that wasn't even completed yet. How are these incidents the same? We don't even know how severe the defect is.

I would suggest that many if not all manufacturers have recalls and faulty equipment from time to time, its how you handle it and how you recover that makes you a company worth my cash. CCH has proven time and again that they are not ready to supply large scale amounts of safe climbing equipment. Besides that fact that this Dave guy is not man enough to apologize for his ignorance and unprofessional conduct.

Trango definitely appears to have more integrity than CCH. Accepting responsibility and fast action is the way to go. CCH was just a mess. Started bad, probably end bad.

Wouldn't it make sense keeping the CCH stuff in the old threads about it or even making a seperate thread to compare company responses to gear troubles?

This is a serious recall about Trango products and needs to reach the right folks.

Note to everyone:

I definitely have one of the affected cams, and it does NOT look like the above picture.

On full retratction, the upper rivet is smaller than pictured above, as well as darker in color (on mine, yours may or may not be darker in color).

You can tell for sure if your rivets on the lower axle look different than those on your upper axle (on full retraction).

I'm only posting this so people won't think "oh, mine doesn't look like the picture, it's fine."

If you have either of these dates, send them in.

I'm sure he isn't busy right now with something a little more important than an online forum. Myspace is a forum too. See the level we are on

TomTom,

Believe me - I have no doubt whatsoever Malcolm would have posted this recall personally if he could have. I simply put it up on a few sites so that it would get posted as faithfully to their recall .pdf file as possible before anything got misconstrued or inaccurate info got posted. And forget about Trango - climbers in general don't have a better friend than Malcolm...

I'm removing any post that does not specifically refer to this recall. If you have an issue that needs to be discussed in another thread then please take it there. I will not hesitate to keep this thread clean. No hijacks please people. This is an extremely important issue and needs to be kept focused on the issue.

This post is also going to be sent to the world climbing news forum so that it gets maximum exposure.

I've just split these posts out of the Max Cam recall thread which I subsequently sent to the world climbing news forum. I'm just wanting to keep the Max cam recall thread free from hijacking. It needs to stick to the issue and not devolve into another dummy spitting thread.

The max cam recall thread needs riding shotgun over.

I really have nothing to add other than my dislike of "taddy." Every time I read one of his posts I feel just a little bit dumber.

Ah yes, another defective cam for me to send in (it's a miracle I'm not dead).

Mine is an 0605 and from what I can see, it looks just like chalkfree's picture.

I think this is a case where Mal's looooong history of prompt, honest and forthright answers to RC.com user questions will serve Trango well.

it's too bad his posts come off like that. In real life tattooed_climber is a really nice guy. I've had a chance to hang with him and he's quite quiet and humble. It's amazing what the internet can do to some.

I'm behind a heavy-handed moderation of that thread 100%. I think we would do Malcolm Daly a great disservice if we acted in any other way after all the respect and consideration he's shown this site and it's users.
