I'm headed to ashford the first weekend in may, I'm flying into seattle on thurs and don't have to be to ashford til friday night. Is there any good cragging in the area? or do you think skiing will be open that late?

drive out east on I-90 to North Bend. Both Exit 32 and Exit 38 have fun sport climbing, both moderate and hard. Check out route database to get more info.

To answer you question exactly, no there really is not any noteworthy climbing between ashford and seattle. If you are comming in may then you should think about some back country skiing. I am not sure if Crystal mountain is still open (i dont ski) but if it is then that would be your logical choice. If you are in for the back country thing then you could go do a day up at paradise. If you really want to go climbing and are not to worried about finding anything of quality then do as the previous poster said and drive up I-90, but go to Exit 32 not Exit 38. If it is even slightly raining or heavy overcast in seattle forget it it will be raining up there. Truth is if you only have a day then get yourself a hotel in down town and enjoy the city a bit. It really is a great city with tons of fun stuff to do. Go wander around the market, pioneer square, and take the cheap tour boat (comuter ferry) accross the water and back. Go get yourself a good seafood dinner somewhere downtown. We have some of the best seafood anywhere. Of course if you are a climbing bum like the rest of usit is raining and you have no money and you really hate the city, you could always just go for a hike. See above post but dont carry any climbing gear and continue along trail to top of peak. I personally recomend McClellan Butte. Its a nice hike with a fun summit. Look for it on the web or post again if you cant find it.

sweet, thanks for the info, I have 2 days, so maybe I'll spend one day in the city, and the other up checking out paradise

The backcountry skiing around Paradise rocks. I would go straight to Ashford and ski there.
