This time it's one of the best routes on the rock. Pockets of Resistance is no longer with us. This needs to end....

If I were competent at bolting, I'd be out there putting it back up. Anyone want a bolting apprentice?

whats the reason someone would want to chop it? Is there the possibility of placing pro on the route? or is it just a malicious thing?

Here's all I know... A number of other routes have also been chopped. One climber is strongly suspected of the damage, but as far as I know nothing is proven.

Well, what legal options do you suggest then?

I don't see much option. I haven't met or heard of a single person who has seen the chopping actually happen. I wouldn't be surprised if it was happening mid week or some other "off" time. It's an out of the way crag and so no one would ever know who did it or when. The person who is suspected to be doing it dropped off the radar and alienated himself from the community. It's a shame too, he used to be a big contributor to the local climbing community.

Josh

Edit for grammar...

Best option would be to bolt his house and climb it with crampons and tools.

I'd bet the person responsible for the chopping is still reading these forums.
Unfortunately, I can't think about any easy solution. I mean, even if this person is caught chopping the bolts, I'm not very sure about the legal repercussions of bolt-chopping. I firmly believe that threats will only make the problem worse. However, I wouldn't be very surprised if this person finally gets himself into serious trouble if he continues pushing people with this kind of behavior.... I wish I were more optimistic, but I don't foresee a nice end for this situation.
Anyways, kudos for trying, bandycoot, that's way more than what most of us are doing....

Edited to add:
For those of you with better negotiation abilities and, specially, better english than me, you may find some interesting info in this website... well, you get the point.

Re-edited to remove the link... (see next post)

Same old shit. Art is like a fuc@ing yeti. We know he exists, but we just cant find him or prove what hes doing. Been through this for a while now guys? right? We will get pissed, brainstorm, make some grandiose legal plan or whatever, and do nothing. All out of ideas, frustating. The only idea I have, is to beat his ass hard. If I see you art, were going to scrap. Wont solve anything, but I will certainly feel better. coward.

My god, another one? We need surveillance on the major climbing areas in SD. I want to know what his motivation here is? I mean, in his mind, he can't honestly think that he's making climbing in SD better... So, what gives Art?

“You are not permitted to kill a woman who has injured you, but nothing forbids you to reflect that she is growing older every minute. You are avenged 1440 times a day.” -Ambrose Bierce

I used to have this one written inside my Lit 100 notebook. The teacher was a scorned and wretched woman.
The individual who has been doing the chopping is out of touch with the world around him and is sinking like a stone.

I do not think you have any legal options, just like you cannot call the cops if you get ripped off buying drugs. Your only options are to take matters into your own hands or let this jackass chop your local routes.

i think it was mentioned before... that these "threats" posted here only fuels Art's fire.... may i suggest not saying any negative comment towards this man.... this is ofcourse only speculation, but a very very good chance that it is Art still constantly chopping... since we all are unable to hear from or witness the act of chopping...

this is a message board... what does calling someone out do??? all your threats are going un-answered, no?

it is just my opinion but i think if i were Art, everyone ganging up against me would justify it in my mind, to continue to ruin "everyones" climbing....

since december when this first came up.... has yelling on this message board done anything? could we stop, or just do something else entirely?

Ok, so seriously who wants to do some rebolting? I've never placed a bolt in my life, but would like to learn. This is a great opportunity for me. Is there anyone out there who would like to teach me? I'll haul gear out there and I'd be willing to pay for, and/or fund raise for $ for bolts etc. Let's stand united as a community that we don't want these routes chopped instead of threatening harm. I'll be out of town for most of the rest of this month, but I'm serious. Who wants to bust out the bolt kit?

Also, does anyone know Randy Leavitt's e-mail address? He was at least part of the FA team. Maybe he wouldn't mind heading out there with me... Plus, it would be good to know where the bolts were if the placements are now well covered.

Thanks,

Josh Higgins

And very soon there won't be a single bolted route in SD... I get it, you work for a cam company, don't you? :-)
