I recently returned from Baboquivari. Unfortunately, we did not climb anything as we ended up follwoing a cattle bushwack trail that lead north of the peak in baboquivari canyon. Anyways, I noticed many large walls with plenty of 5 to 6 pitch route potential. Does anyone know about any routes on the northern cliffs below Babo? This is a super cool place - very remote with few climbing visitors. Thanks for your help, Mike

You will find the book online. I found it about a year ago with no problems. Sorry I can't give you any specific beta as I have never been to Babo. CL

BK's book only lists the Forbes route on the north face. There are no documented routes on that side. Sounds like a good place to start looking for a new route. M

Bunch of undocumented routes down there at Babo. Not sure what's on the north face, but definitely several routes, both recent and old-school, on the south and east faces that haven't been publicized (i.e. didn't show up in Kerry's editions). Seems like it's Thompson Canyon on the east side of Babo that you follow up to the saddle, then across to the SE Arete. Is that what you intended to climb Mike? Did you come in from east, or west?

G, the photos I saw were the north face, shady and look fairly big. BK said there are no documented routes on it. M

Bob Kerry's backcountry guide is still available; try Summit Hut. It does not document any routes on the walls adjacent to Babo though. There may be issues with the reservation that it sits on, but those walls look like they definitely have some potential. There are also a few new lines that people have been working on out there in between the documented routes on Babo itself.
