Does anyone have beta on the routes that Johnny Woodward and friends from SLC put up in the Pass Cr. area just northeast of Mackay, Idaho? Supposedly big limestone sport routes in a beautiful setting.

Well, the only beta I can give you is that I hauled myself up to the base of the cliff up there and jumped on a few routes. I knew no ratings or nothing but we climbed two routes and they were 5.9ish - 5.10ish but there was a huge amount of rocks up there and a lot of bolt lines to choose from. Not quite sure what more I can say about it. The cliff up there is huge! Also, quite remote. I mean, there was nobody there. Very pretty area as I have quite fond memories. Limestone was a bit sharp as it can tend to be...

I headed up to Bear Cr. after that last post and found the routes. I haven't had a chance to climb they yet, probably later this summer. The rock is bomber limestone and you couldn' t ask for a more beautiful setting to sport climb at. I see the approach as a good warm up for climbing so it's something I don't mind. It seems that getting route names and ratings for Bear Creek are just about easy as finding the holy grail though. Oh well, just go and have fun I guess and bring some bail biners! Did you jump on the short routes on the lower wall?

Gosh, it was about 2 years ago now. All I can remember was doing single pitches from the ground below that huge cliff up there. A friend and I walked up the gulch and saw that huge wall way up there and beelined right for it. You could probably go higher but I wasn't leading so I can't help you there. There was a shorter, lower wall which looked a bit harder (?not sure though?) although we did not climb any of those. What a spectacular place. There could be some great multipitches up there too. The world famous Mackay Rodeo should be sometime around now, no? I reccomend it highly!

try to talk to some slc, ut guys. johnny woodward (woodard?) put most all those routes up, therefor they are scary and runout. there are also a couple routes in pass creek canyon on the way up. first big cliff on your left that is limestone, just above the water. if you are really needing to find route info i would email black diamond or try and get a hold of the old pusher guys (mike call, boone speed) and ask how to get a hold of some old school slc bolters. have fun, i'll try and make it there sometime this fall too. i want to bolt that big cave in pass creek on the right side at the end of the canyon, look for it. later mike
