On March 29th, Mark Inglis stepped off the plane in Kathmandu with the intention of climbing Everest. Summitting the worlds highest mountain these days is considered by many as a perfectly achievable goal. The hundreds of people that completed the climb over the last 10 years can bare witness to that, but Inglis attempt has a twist.

In 1982 Inglis lost both legs below the knee to frost bite when he and his partner, Phil Doole, were forced to spend two weeks near the summit of Mt Cook in a snow cave weathering a storm. Should he summit, he will be the first double amputee to do so. Assisting him in his attempt is Fellow Kiwi Mark Whetu, an experienced alpine climber who himself has lost most of his toes to frostbite, and Himalayan Experience, a British commercial expedition company. Discovery Channel has employed Tigress Productions to film Inglis attempt.

Currently, the team has split into two groups and has left advanced base camp (6400m) for the North Col. Mark Inglis is associated with The Cambodia Trust and is using this venture to raise funds itís Kompong Chnnang Limb Centre.
He hopes to summit Mt. Everest on Sunday 14th.

I am now more of a weakling then a double amputee, a blind man, a 70 year old, a 12? year old, a playboy cover model and a dog. For shame.
