So, I went to climb at Cat slab yesterday and was greeted by lots of no trespassing signs and a big sign blocking the approach that said "NO CLIMBING". On mountain project I found 2 postings about the area being closed. One from 2 years ago and one from a week ago. Didn't find anything on this site. Anyone know what's going on? Is there someplace where we could find out who actually owns the land?

Over the weekend some hikers got hurt up there. Maybe this is related to that?

Actually I think the hiker got hurt the day we were there. When we tried to get back to Golden, got turned around by road crews and sent the long way home. Then we got to Golden and tried to go up Hwy 6 to get our cars and it was closed from that side as well. We were threatened to be given a ticket if we went past where we told them our cars were.

Was there a story in the Daily Camera or other paper about the accident? I'm wondering if it got reported as a climber accident (because we all know that any idiot who falls off a rock must be a climber).

As far as who owns the land goes. It should be a matter of public record with Clear Creek or Jefferson Counties. I am not sure which Catslab belongs to. Of course you'll have to figure out an address, mine claim, or legal description of the place. Best just to leave the place alone. It is private property. The land owners will probably change their minds in a couple of months and take down the signs again anyway.
