the good news - the LETRA gate just past Medicine Bluff Creek opens at 6:00 AM!
the bad news - the MPs will search your car for weapons and contraband. Also, everyone needs a photo id.

Hey push, since you don't have class Friday, what time are you planning to go down? I'm taking off work and thought I would go down in the morning, set up a tent and then go climb. You up for some Friday climbing? Let me know what time and maybe we can meet at LETRA and go climb together. Anyone else planning to come down early and climb Friday? Let us know and we'll get this party started.
I'm just a little anxious to hit the rock,,, or could you tell See yall soon.

Sounds too fun. I'm just trying to get started. Anyway, I'm in the military here at Ft. Sill and been to LETRA many times so if you need anymore info I would be glad to help. BTW yes the MP's will search your car if you do not have a Ft. Sill sticker (mandatory) and they will definitly find any contraband. They will also turn you around if you do not have pic ID. Just let me know how it goes. Might even be out there this weekend camping or hiking.

Hey Brian, welcome to the crazies on RC.com. Come with us this weekend and you can get some climbing in. There should be all experience and ability levels climbing, so you are sure to fit in somewhere. Since you are based at Ft. Sill and are very familiar with LETRA, maybe you could post dirrections on how to get to the main Ft. Sill gates and to LETRA from there (in case anyone comes in after 9:45 pm when the LETRA access gate closes. Hope to see you on the rock this weekend.

weapons (to include knives), drugs. Illegal stuff. Beer and the like isn't (unless you are drinking it at the time ). As far as directions, I will drive out there tomorrow and get specific directions. Check tomorrow night and will try to post them. I believe you can still get in the camping area after hours. The main gate is open 24 hrs but not sure about Letra, I know there is a person on duty 24 hrs ( I almost had to pull that duty once). I will check on that too. As far as joining, I am totally new. If someone doesn't mind showing me, I'll try to make it. I am so itching to try it. Someone here was supposed to take me but bailed. I have a harness and a biner that's about it.
Anyway I'll try to get those directions posted tomorrow.

Hey Bryan we would love to have you out there. I"m bringing a friend who has never climbed on real rock before so you won't be the only rookie.
Hey gang, I just got the Oklahoma's Climbers Guide and I'm even more excited than before. I was hoping to climb in The Narrows, but was wondering if anyone else had any ideas. The book said it was one of the best places in OK to climb and there is shade too! Just thought we could start talking about different climbing areas or even specific climbs!? Hey mo, I'm all for climbing in the Narrows, especially in the afternoon when it's hot and most of the Narrows climbs are in the shade. What time Friday are you going to get in? I'm trying to find someone planning to climb Friday, is anyone planning to come early enough to climb Friday? As I was sitting on the couch last night playing with my nuts and with gear strewn all over the place, my wife suggested that I should go down thursday after work so that she can enjoy some peace a quiet, she quite strongly suggested in fact. So it looks like I will be there all day Friday if anyone else wants to climb.

Soooooo excited for this weekend, unfortunately I won't be there on Friday, because I have to support my team...I am going to Tulsa to watch OU play the golden hurricanes..go OU!!!! anyway my friend Wroyce and I will be down there early Sat. morning and will stay until late monday...I am so excited to meet all of you and be safe on your way to the wichita's

Just a little reminder to everyone:
Bring bug juice with DEET, spray your legs before any of the hikes, the trail to the Narrows is especially tick and chiggery and the skeaters get bad in the evenings.
Bring LOTS of water, even though it looks like the weather will be good, it's still hard to have too much water.
Don't forget the sunblock and swimsuit, Lake Elmer Thomas is one of the clearest and coldest lakes in Oklahoma, sure feels good after climbing all day.
You will probably want some good hiking shoes, except for upper Mt. Scott, most of the climbs have a bit of an approach.

Hey J.C. - i'm here everyday!!! But like I said i'm a straight rookie.
I did check at Letra and they said it fills up REAL early Labor day weekend. You can check in at anytime - $3.00 a tent. I also have directions for whoever is coming up from the south if you want them. Just let me know and I'll post them.
Sheridan Rd Gate (Bently Gate)and Key gate are open 24 hours a day.
If anyone needs any more last minute info I will definetly help out. If you get here and have trouble, I'm in the Lawton phone book.

Hey Bryan, go ahead and post those directions on how to get to Bently and Key Gates and to LETRA from there, if you would. I don't need them but someone else may. If you have Friday free, come on up and climb with me, no one else is volunteering for belay slave duty Let me know if you can make it and we will make plans on where to meet.
Amber, there are no numbered sites, you just pitch your tent anywhere within the camping area. I will try to camp just past the restrooms on the lake side of the road. Looks like I will be driving my old 89 Nissan Stanza, teal green and in need of a paint job. My usual tent has been twisting in a funky way, so I will be using one of my back-up tents and I forget what colors they are, but you can look for my car. I will try to be real obnoxious so no one will want to camp near me.
