I am a frequent visitor of Biarritz by the atlantic coast in France. I know its better known for its surfing but i was wondering if anybody ever climbed any of its beautiful beach boulders? How about rope climbing? ..or will i have to learn surfing..

arion, I really think you should buy board and start to surf, cause that's the only thing they live for over there... And what would you live for if you had waves that big in you front-yard? Bottomline: I don't know to much about the climbing there,, but for surfing I have a hell of lot of friends that might want to teach you some surfing.

Don't learn surf, U will find everything U want in Pays-Basque if U're a climber. If U read a little bit french go see www.euskalade.free.fr, a website on climbing in this beautiful area (maybe the site is also in spanish, bu I'm not sure). If U don't finf what U want there, let me know, and I will try to help U if I can.

To surf mornings and climb evenings sounds like a good way to spend your holidays to me.. Thomas: the link you posted seems to be down for the moment, is there other info about climbing in Pays Basque on the net? I try to come to Biarritz a.s.a.p, but my economy doesnt allow it just yet. I hope you'll enjoy it! There the food is good (fish, red hot pepper...), the grass is good (strong and tasty), you can buy things in Spain (which were cheaper (before the euros)), and so on. The villages are beautiful (St-Jean, Guetary, Bidart, Espelette, Sarre...), the landscape great to walk in. During a nice day, you can walk up the Mondarrain through the fields among bush trees and wild poneys, then boulder on top of the Mondarrain. A maybe you'll meet Josune Bereciartu climbing a 8c! So go there and enjoy it!
