I'm trying to reserve a camping spot for Elevenmile Canyon on the online reservation system. The problem is that none of the campground names on the reservation system match up with the campgrounds I've read on the crag info (Spillway, etc). Anyone have any suggestions on where to try to get a spot? I know there is free camping in other areas but I would be happy to pay a little and have a spot by the water. On the otherhand, I wouldn't mind a spot that has less of a crowd. Thanks for any info you can give. (I also posted this on mountainproject.com but that has less readership it seems)

As far as I know, you can't ever get too close to the water at elevenmile. The best campground is probably the cove campground about 6 miles up. Equal distance from all climbing in the morning. Right across the street from there is the road to the free camping, but i think you have to drive up a couple of miles before you are in national forest land.

Dont quote me on this but are'nt there a few camping areas way up the canyon by the water? Or were those just picnic areas? I seem to remember tents there.

Last time I was up at 11 Mile Canyon all the campsites were ...TOO CROWDED! The place was party central with people out there just for the party aspect. They would pary into the night and sleep late into the day then do it again. Then again...it's like that everywhere nowdays. I hope you find a campsite. The climbing at the canyon is great. JB

Thanks so much. I'm a total newbie to Elevenmile there having only climbed there once on the few bolted routes. I've recently entered trad-land so I'm heading back. I know that I drove by some camp areas that were right on the water the first time I visited but my memory is hazy on where they were. Naive question - The list of sites on the park system is: RORI Loop A RORI Loop B NOSH Loop E RORI Loop D NOSH Loop B NOSH Loop C HOPI HOWBERT POINT NOSH Loop A NOSH Loop D RORI Loop E CRCR CROSS CREEK LABO LAZY BOY STMO STOLL MOUNTAIN RORI Loop C ROCH ROCKING CHAIR WICO WITCHERS COVE Is "cove" the same as "wico witchers cove" you think?

Keep in mind there is Elevel Mile Reservoir and Eleven Mile Canyon. Two different areas and two different "management systems"

Livvy, you're looking at the elevenmile state park site. You should be looking at the elevenmile national forest website. The state park is located at the resevoir and quite a drive to the canyon. I can't remember the names of the campgrounds in the canyon but the one farthest in has some great bouldering in the sites themselves. Have fun and enjoy.

Thanks so much everyone for the info. Just to report back to anyone who needs similar information in the future with all of the usual "IMO" caveats: We camped at Riverside - we barely got one of the first come, first served spots at 6pm on Friday and we had been unable to reserve because you must reserve 5 days or more in advance. This campground has a bunch of families and is very much a fisher-car camping site. We enjoyed it and had a great view of the river, a picnic table and fire pit but we also had some dogs barking and whining children. The tent sites at Riverside in the teens are mostly in the shade but the sites in the single digits are in the sun. There is potable water and a bathroom. A good map of the campgrounds is here and links to the various campgrounds and reservation website are here. We checked out Cove while we were there which was definitely smaller (4 sites) but wasn't particularly 'wild' feeling if that is what you are looking for (drive in sites close together but far off the road and not RV friendly so it might attract quieter folks). All 4 sites are reservable and were reserved for the weekend well in advance. One positive aspect of the Cove is that it is closer to the awesome swimming areas of the river that are further into the canyon. Spring Gulch looked nice but we didn't get a close look at it. PS - I led my first trad pitches doing the first and last picthes of Schooldaze!
