Yet another question. When getting back into climbing, how many days should you spend climbing a week? And how long should you climb each day? [ This Message was edited by: jt512 on 2002-08-28 17:38 ]

The Prime Directive is Never Weight Your Fingers More than Four Days a Week. Note that this is an upper limit. You may need more rest days. When in doubt, rest. -Jay

supposedly, tendons take like 2 to 3 times longer to heal then muscles. Since climbing stresses the tendons in your fingers a lot, and muscles take like a day to recover, you should take around 2 or 3 days off after a really difficult workout (small crimpers and stuff). If you aren't stressing your tendons that much every time you climb, you can climb more. Go by feel...start out with 2 days rest, then after a few weeks if your fingers are feeling great, you can try taking one day off. Personally, i climb 4 days a week and lift weights on my off days...technically, i'm not really letting my tendons recover at all, but since i don't climb super hard every day it's ok.

It depends wether you're getting back into climbing from just a long period of resting, or from an injury, both ways you cannot climb everyday. Try climbing one day, then rest the next, and so on. The reason for this is because your body needs a full day to recover from climbing. Especially if you've been getting into some pretty mad overhanging stuff. Kat
