Hey everyone. Just went climbing for the first time today, and absolutely fell in love with it. So much that I went out and bought some basic equipment right after. Anyway, my friend and I are brand new to the sport and would like to improve. We're going to start going to Island Rock, in Plainview, as often as we can, and hopefully get to the point where we can start taking weekend trips for outdoors climbing. Our schedules are fairly restricted, though, as we're in the Coast Guard, however we're more than willing to take leave to go climbing. If there're any other beginners in the area who'd like to learn with us that'd be awesome. And if there're skilled climbers in the area who'd put up with our "noob-ness" to the sport, and help us learn, that'd be even better.

Roger

Hi Roger,
I'm not new to climbing, but I climb infrequently enough that I still consider myself a newbie. Whenever I go, I invariably have several friends tagging along, in various stages of newness themselves. You and your friend are welcome to join us. I live in Middle Island - just a few miles from you...
Next two trips are:
This Saturday, July 1st
and
Two Saturdays after that, July 15th
email me for details tinkerlc@optonline.net

hey guys,

I just got some news that may mean a much earlier arrival to Islip than I was anticipating. So, If I do end up there, I'll be looking for partners.

Hey, I just moved out to LI for the summer, I'm working in Westhampton Beach but I try to make it down to Island rock once a week. I just got a bouldering pad and have checked out wildwood but not east marion yet. I mostly climb sport and boulder, but ended up climbing about 30 feet of 5.7 in alpine boots protected by a slung block and a #6 bd stopper on my last climb  . At any rate, I am comfortable leading up to around .11b, so if you want a partner for a trip to rumney or something let me know. I'm doing stuff with the fam for this weekend but hopefully will be available for the rest of the july weekends.

me and my small posse (anywhere from about 5 to 8 climbers) are going to the gunks on the 15th-16th. we usually top rope, but i'm accumulating a rack and starting to learn leading. 3 of us have racks. we have plenty of rope. One friend who comes with us on occasion can lead up to 5.6 or so. Our climbing abilities range from 5.3-5.8.
If anybody would be interested in meeting us there, or even joining us for the ride, here's my email address: tinkerlc@optonline.net.
