I just picked up an issue of Liberty Sports Magazine and it had an article on PA Climbing. It mentioned sport climbing on the Forster Bridge in Harrisburg. Can anyone elaborate?

I was there one night last summer and there was a bridge that had abutments made from big blocks of dirty, crumbly sandstone. Also, it was night time and not many people around.

Could be, but maybe they meant the E-town RR bridge

It's considered trespassing, if that's a concern. Never been there myself.

The gap is located where rt 80 crosses from PA to NJ. Monday July 3rd would be a good date. I'll be driving from Reading, so if anyone needs a ride let me know.

By the way, do we need a big rack? is sport climbing availble or is it trad ? or only top roping?

Thanks for the info.

It's all trad climbing at the gap. I have a modest rack that I'm comfortable leading with, if you have a one also bring it along.

Don't be so modest, Nate. You've got a great rack!

It was closed about 10 yrs ago when I was climbing there and I haven't heard anything about it being reopened. It would be great if they reopened it but with all the people dying there it doesn't look promising.

there are a bunch of sport lines on the E-town pillar. I have climbed on the forester bridge but it was bouldering/solo as of last year. Are you sure it said sport routes. What issue was that? the Henry ave bridge in philly has good sport lines

I reread the article and it said Harrisburg sportS climbing on the man-made Forster Bridge. I didn't notice the S and took is as Harrisburg having sport climbing. The article also mentioned the Henry Avenue Bridge.

If you get tired or climbing, or want to give non climbers an opportunity to get some exposure try this:
http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=76670

Mitch and I did the Canopy Tour at Spring Mountain. You take the chairlift up the mountain and then take a series of ziplines and high ropes elements down the mountain. It was a lot of fun, something different, and easy on the hands!

The link for the site is:

A Philadelphia Inquirer article:

Would anyone like to play tour guide for Mt. Gretna / Gov Dicks sometime this fall? I tried to map it on GPS with the provided map but only found two areas.

I'm semi nearby. I'm about 40 minutes south of Harrisburg in York. There's some good climbing here at Chickes Rock and I go to the Climbnasium all the time. I'm actually going tonight and Saturday if anyone is interested.

But if you're looking for a climbing partner crazypaguy, hit me up.

Hello All, Just wanted to invite everyone to check out "Lion's Den" and "Indian Rocks". You can find them under Northwestern Region for PA. I have an approach map and route map posted for Lions Den. I need to put one together for Indian Rocks. Lots of good lines and worth a short road trip!! Also, on the PA Climbers Club topic. Please add me to your list. Sounds like something I would like to be a part of!!

Hello All, You are invited to check out "Lion's Den" and "Indian Rocks". Check them out under the Northwestern Region of PA on rockclimbing.com. I posted an approach map and route guide for "Lion's Den". I hope to put a route guide together for "Indian Rocks". Lots of good stuff at these locations. They are close to each other and well worth a short road trip for any PA Climbers. I have lots of pictures I need to post but I am hoping some fellow PA climbers will drive up, check them out and post some reviews. I am also interested in the PA Climbers club. Please add me to the contact list and keep me in the loop.
