Does anyone have any great tips for camping in/near Clarks Canyon (North of Bishop)? I've heard about 'Big Springs' but I can't find it on the 'net... - Jack -

The Big Springs CG is the CG right off the paved road on your way to Clark Canyon. There also another nice area with grass and trees about a mile before you get to Clark and right where you turn if you were going to Al's Garage. If you can find Clark Canyon, you can't miss the camping areas.

If you've manged to figure a scam to buy $4 gas, this will be the least of your problems. Open your eyes when you go, and various options will come to you, but like someone said, the parking area isn't one of them. Have fun.

assuming you're bouldering - maybe you're not - but why camp so far away? is it just to get away from the pit and camp somewhere more serene or is it just because you don't want to pay (because the extra gas will most likely make up the difference). Just curious.

There is a nice looking little campspot on the way the crag.. its kinda grassy on the right maybe in a bend in the dirt road. No one else would be around and you'd be real close to the rock. Only thing is I've heard multiple people that camped there wound up getting the BUBONIC PLAGUE. True story... I totally heard that.

In reply to: There is a nice looking little campspot on the way the crag.. its kinda grassy on the right maybe in a bend in the dirt road. Hey I was camped there over the weekend - BEAUTIFUL spot. We didn't get the plauge either. Anyone know anything about the SAR that came out of Al's Garage? We were camped right where SAR parked, the ambulance blocked our way out for a while. They said it was a broken ankle or something? Hope it wasn't valleyclimber. In reference to In reply to: oh ya, and you'll be camped in a giant active volcanoe we were disapointed to find Hot Creek closed! (and the water from Big Springs is good!)

Nope, no broken ankle here, it wasn't me. We never left Tuolumne. Thanks for all of the info.... I think I'll hit 'Area 13' when it opens next month.

In reply to: Hey Life_Is_Good, sorry for the stupid jokes. How was the road? My weeee little car make it?????? No worries, no offense taken on the stupid joke. I was going to reply about biting someone anyway. What kind of car do you have? My friend drives a Saturn and says he scrapes as he goes over the road from the campground to Clark Canyon. He asked that we drive my Element, which cleared the road fine. The road isn't muddy or anyting, there are just ruts. There were other little cars down at the CC parking though, so it is do-able. There is one spot on the way down to the campground where the road has rocks that you'd want to be very careful driving over. I marked the location of the rocks on my GPS ... if you want the coordinants you'll have to wait for me to go home tonight (I *do* work, even if I read and reply to messages during the day! LOL)
