It's been 100 years since President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed Devils Tower as the countries first national monument. The icon has a rich and enthralling history as Willy Zimmer of the Jackson Hole star Tribune discovered...

and now part of it is crumbling....Did you hear about the pillar that de-stablized? Its a sad reminder that one day these beautiful things will not be with us anymore. We must appreciate them while they are here.

In reply to: and there's still fixed gear from the FA 7/4/1876, hhmm? The fixed gear you're reffering to are pieces of wood left over from the wooden ladder (the Rogers Ladder) that they built while they where climbing.

Column receives clean bill of health The Durrence Route is on my tick list, I'd hate for it to turn into a 12d before I get to do it. :)

I've been up it twice in the last month and I didn't notice it moving. If it did fall the Durrance Crack would just be 30 feet or so longer. It would probably only be an 8 or a 9.
