Moores Wall Camping  (North_America: United_States: North_Carolina: Central: Moores_Wall)

I am going to Moores Wall this weekend (7-29/7-30). What is the best/closest place to camp near the rocks (campground or woods as long as it is legal)? The only campgrounds I could find are a little further from the crag than I would like. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
-Daniel

Camping at Moore's is sketchy. PM, Daniel.

The accepted spot is inside the park. And I can give you trail info to get you from the campground to the cliff without dealing with the gate.

We CANNOT camp at the new parking area.

I copied your post over to Carolinaclimbers.org. You'll probably get some good responses there. I think it is still possible to park and 'camp' at the end of the old road on Tim Fisher's property and that's as close as you can get.

The camping in Hanging Rock State Park is really nice; you'll have to deal with a gate curfew and you'll either have to drive to the climbing area or face a really long approach. On the bright side the camping is close to the lake which is a really nice thing in July!

Just be sure to fill out a climbing permit(new permit box at climbers parking area) and whatever you choose to do, do not camp in the climbers parking area!

PM if you need more detailed info.

Thanks for all of the responses. The reason I asked is because I have heard that camping in the parking lot is a big no-no, so I was looking for something better.

be careful with the beers at HR campground.

the campground is nice but they like to enforce the non-alcaholic policy.

another option is moore's springs campground....if it's open. got a nice nighttime boulder if you can get that site. rustic.

it's on the way to HR main gate (from Moore's Wall) on Moore's Springs Rd.

there's a paddling shop right up the rd. (toward the main gate) with some basic camping supplies, firewood etc......nice folks.
