Has anyone seen the small canyon that is off hwy 280 on the right heading south across the road from Soccer Blast. I think it is on Dunnavant Valley Rd. I noticed it last Christmas but didnt pay much attention to it until a few weeks ago. I decided to drive down the small canyon road and I realized how much rock is actually there. I think this place could be a big deal. Does anyone have any info on this area Name, routes, etc.?

Are you talking about the narrows? Old 280 runs through a narrow corridor of fractured limestone......around 30 maybe 40 tall in spots

I will be passing through Birmingham early next week (Monday or Tues) on my way out to Tuscaloosa, is this place worth checking out?

I know there is some bouldering at Shades Crest bouldering fields that I am planning on jumping on for an hour or so, its it worth checking out as well?

Yeah thats the place Bernard. I would say its worth looking into at least. You can see the rock from the road so you can easily decide if you like it or not. I dont know if there are any access issues with this area but it seems wide open to me.

Shades Crest Boulder Fields (Moss Rock Preserve) has got good bouldering. Second to HP40 in Alabama.

I am familiar with the Narrows...now a trendy subdivision and commercial area...used to drive my Triumph TR4A through there at high speeds before the yuppies took over. I don't know about climbing there. Seems like conspicuous use would get the law down on you. If it hasn't been developed yet, I would think there's insurmountable issues. Check the ownership, also.

Let us know.
