Does anyone know if the "sport climbing capital of the world" is closed or not? I would love to go there, but man would it suck if it was closed when I got there.

The climbing area is not closed as far as I know. But the Rancho has changed hands and they screwed Kurt so do not stay there. But the climbing is excelent you should go.

Last year, Oktober, I stayed for a month in the Potrero Chico and had a great time there.
The Rancho Cerro Gordo is closed as far as I now but there are other Rancho's like Habanero. If you see Barbara give her greetings, she is sweet.
Enjoy it.
If you wanna now more, mail me.

Word on the street, from a couple of friends that speant a lot of time down there, tells me that Kurt's account may not be exactly the way it happened. Who has more media exposure, Kurt or a local?

We stayed at Posada(sp?) and the facilities were fantastic, right accross the road from Checo's too!

Homero's is chilly-chill if you know what I mean. There are some special green "burros" hidden around the place that we stashed when we were there in April. If you find em-smoke up johny!

Kurt's place is open, but not run by Kurt anymore as said before. Homero's in my opinion is nice, but La Posada and Quinta La Pagoda are much more appealing.

Check out http://www.elpotrerochico.com for some more info or you can PM me. I have been down there several times.

Get a pump on the climbing wall and you may be pumped on what you find at the top. Or maybe see if you can climb all the rafters. Or you can just ask a young cab driver to take you to the bario. If the burros are gone, they're not hard to find in town-if your down for looking.

If anyone wants the "anti-Kurt version", e-mail J-Bone. He spent some time at Cerro Gordo and had some unfriendly dealings with Kurt from my understanding. Regardless, it's best to stay away from the controversy.

Try Homero´s, La Posada, La Pagoda, or Checos instead.

Has anyone been down since the floods? Last I heard, the bridge and the pavillion (big sol thing) were gone. Also heard that parts of the Vatican were dangerous due to rockfall caused by the heavy rains. Looking for some firsthand info.

Thanks,

Yev
