Hi, anything in Italy below 2000m or so meters should be fine in October. But the weather this summer is kinda crazy, so you never know... we had around -3°C during the night last weekend at 2600m... I'm personally not into Via Ferratas, so I can't recommend a specific one, but surely the famous ones such as Via delle Bocchette in the Brenta Group will be too high/cold and the huts are already closed at that time. I believe however there should be plenty in the Arco region. Best, H.

No looking at maps trying to find a good one just asking the local guides.I found a excellant site and will provide the link in a moment to andrew's page of ferattas in europe. Again Thanx Jerr

There are a number of good via Ferratas in the Ecrin region in France (at about 1500metres altitude). The Ecrin usually has good weather. There is also the longest one in France near La Grave (east of Grenoble). good luck

I just moved to Dublin and I'm also thinking of trying to do a Via Ferrata somewhere...but a couple issues. I'm heavily on a budget and I don't have a car. SOO...I'm looking for a via ferrata where I could easily get to from a major airport or city, via train or bus, easily. Worst case, or maybe best case, I'm willing to be with a small tour group?? In all honesty, I have no idea what I'd be getting myself into...all I know is that it looks fun. Since I am working, it would have to take place over a weekend. Am I shit out of luck?

I was considering a trip to Italy next summer to do some Vias. I haven't done a lot research, but it looks like Venice is a good starting point to get to some good routes and they are a large city with an airport. You can probably find local transportation of some sort to get you into the mountains. That's what I'm banking on. do a Google search for "Via Ferrata" (or one of it's myriad spellings) and Venice

Geographically... yeah, it's close. But transportation-wise and traffic-wise it is a nightmare. It can take up to 2 hours just to get out of that city (boats aren't that fast). Then again... it's a beautiful city and I wouldn't leave it off my tour list if I were going to be in Italy. If you intend to climb, the best city to fly into would be Milan. 2 hours max from the Alps, the Dolomites, and almost everything else climb-worthy. Paolo75, born and raised in Venice, will happily verify.

Verona might be another good option.

Nice to see those places again! Recognized most of them. Went there with a friend a couple of years ago, it was a lot warmer in September. Only have one picture online, of what was probably the most tricky "crux" during that trip... http://www.rockclimbing.com/photo/photo_show.php?id=41071
