I was just in the Mont Blanc valley last week, and for sure, hikers and mountaineers were everywhere. As I understand it, the usual route is to take the tram up to L'Aguille du Midi, and then begin from there. If that's correct, what if climbers simply were forced to start from the base of the mountain? Adding an extra 2000M on to the climb might knock some of the weekend warriors out of the game.
