Me and a few friends are heading to the gunks this weekend and was curious about the camping situations these days. Camp Slime will probally be full when we get there friday night, and The public camground has been closed off rt. 299 (am I right about this). I heard you can pull your car into a dirt road near the hairpin, but we're looking to set up camp for the weekend, have a fire, and be able to chill out and have a good time after climbing all day, preferably with other climbers. Whats the good word?

The DEC campgrounds on 299 should work out. We got there at 7:30 last Friday and were the first to set up tents. They're about a half mile from the Bistro intersection on both sides of the road. You can park alongside the road or pull off into two small parking areas. Each has its own blue pit toilet. The sites have fire pits. Have fun and good luck with the rain.
