Just wanted to remind anyone who cared to view this that Hammond Pond, or HP, or the Pond, or whatever you want to call it, should not be taken too seriously.

I could stop there, but keep in mind this is the outdoor gym, the after work/school playground that those without a car repeatedly find themselves at looking for a little fun... out for a little sesh with their buds or solo working out a cool new way to climb the alcove... surely many first ascents at the pond are results of dares.

I doubt anyone is going to brag about sending the Beached Whale lay-down start, at least not in the manner one may speak of Ride the Lightning. Apples and oranges.

I say this because of travelling climbers' comments yesterday at the alcove. I was asked route names, I knew them and provided them, and in return I got "You know this isn't real climbing, right? I mean, this isn't even real bouldering." Well, I guess that's what I thought when I first moved here and saw the mess of chalk, until I actually started climbing!

Yeah so this is already longer than i meant. Don't take Hammond Pond, climbing, or particularly bouldering too seriously. Take yourself seriously. Definitely DON'T take this topic or section seriously! If you're travelling and happen to see someone trying the (sadly) manufactured direct start to Hepatitis, chances are they're laughing too.

sincerely, bongowurm

It's puddingstone, how could there be any pure lines. It's all good though. Just make up whatever lines you want. It's like a gym wall with infinite permutations.
