The cable used for Tyrolean traverse across the Ausable River on the approach to Moss Cliff failed on 10/07, dropping one climber in the water and leaving two others stranded on the west shore. Everyone was safely evacuated (with terrific support form Lake Placid and Wilmington volunteer FDs) but climbers headed for the cliff should be aware that, at present, the river is best forded about 1/3 mile upstream from the Tyrolean site. Currently, water level in this sandy stretch is above the knee to mid-thigh in the deepest part of the channel.
