I know, what a turn out. We almost had the crags to ourselves. hangerlessbolt toobigtoclimb artm (+1 friend, can't remember name ) jorgle yadi-yadi betaflash sickofla elcapbuzz (+ his brother & an Aussie ) uboth astrocrag mauriceb Matt from Eucipa The Actresss (still can't remember name ) Ryan The Fireman 3 Members of my gym i.karen rrrADAM There are two more who's names I can't remember , and even two climbers came up who found out about Holcomb Valley Pinnacles from the site, but are not registered. Great fun and climbing, even though it got a bit chilly when a storm front moved in threatening rain, but stayed dry. Enjoyed finally meeting many of you, even the one's who's names I cannot remember. Especially enjoyed meeting Ammon (elcapbuzz) and his brother, and listening to some "Big Wall" stories. rrrADAM p.s. Oh yea... Loved the way the McNeely Brothers drove their truck all Dukes Of Hazard Style... They even got airborne. I wouldn't be supprised if they could drive up the first few pitches of El Cap to save time on the approach.

What a stellar trip. Good to finally meet many of you that I have seen around the site. I think my highlight was leading "Coyote In The Henhouse" while wearing Karen's sweater That and seeing the rocket-powered truck blast out of there. Good times. ~Matt, from "Eucipa"

It was in deed a good day to climb. I picked Toobig (Brian) up at 5:30…made a run to the gas station to fuel and load up on eats and drinks. Then we were off to Big Bear. The clouds on the way up were looking a little intimidating, but Brian assured me that there was less than a 10% chance of rain. No worries…we know where the cool eateries are. We blasted up through the fog to the sunny parking area in front of Wilbur’s tombstone at about 8 a.m. We headed over to Motherload’s East Face where Brian geared up and led Blasting Cap(5.5) to warm up. Then he led Wild Rose(5.7). Then I led Fire in the Hole(5.10b)(which Brian cruised without any problem at all...he could have led it blindfolded.) While on lead Artm, Jorgle, and friend arrived. Brian and I moved down the wall where he led Shantytown Swing(5.6) then I hopped on Black Bart doing the 5.10c variation (using the dihedral) as opposed to the 5.11b up the slabby face at the top. Jorgle was able to pull the crux on TR. Then we heard the “crew” approaching. They headed over to Coyote Crag…we followed soon after. I hopped on Black Magic Poodle(5.9)…Brian Cleaned…Then I lead my old nemesis, Pretty Hate Machine aka Golden Spike(5.10b). A storm blew in and with the wind got pretty damn chilly for those of us in shorts and tank tops. Even in pants and a fleece…I was a bit chilled. We headed over to the cover that the amphitheatre could provide. Pranaguy (Matt) and I eyeballed a line that looked doable…we figured that if we couldn’t finish the thin, overhanging route…Adam could…(always nice to have a ropegun) We found out as we started that the route was Coyote in the Hen House(5.10d) and that the crux was at the bottom. No worries. I figured out my sequence and hopped on it…got to the first clip and clipped in and realized that I had pulled the wrong draw off my harness. (I keep two double slings with biners on my harness to set up the TR.) I tried to hang on and reclip…couldn’t do it…had to do a restart. Hopped back on…realized the crux doesn’t get any easier…clipped…and finished the last nearly 90’ of sustained climbing…great route. We pulled the rope as Matt was up next. He cruised it…only taking a one-armed rest halfway up to shake out the pump. Shortly thereafter, Brian and I headed back to the warmth of south Orange County. It was a pleasure to have met everyone and I hope to climb with you all again before too long. *Peace* ~Hanger [ This Message was edited by: hangerlessbolt on 2002-09-09 13:13 ]

You'd've been proud of me Jay... I lead my 2nd .12 Saturday... Incinerator 5.12a. I'm still not a .12 climber, but I tried once, and got it in two hangs at the crux. Maybe one day.

You'll be a "12 climber" before I am, Adam. The fastest I've redpointed a .12a is a half-day...about 4 attempts. Frustration Creek had me spooked. Fickin' choss. I did get on one good 5.11, though, Delusions. -Jay

That was such a great day with all of you. I can't wait to go back there. I think it will become one of my favorite places to climb since there are few people and many climbs. I just have to make more friends with cars that can make it there. I don't think my civic could quite make it.

I wanted to add to all of the good feelings and times had the other day in BB. It is heartening to see such a diverse group of people get together...get along...and get climbing! I had a great day, too. Alan

If Matt is going to wear Karens sweater again, he should shave his legs. Maurice, thanks for egging me on to take that last climb. It restored my confidence. Hope to see you again. [ This Message was edited by: astrocrag on 2002-09-11 17:05 ]
