What is Adopt-a-Crag?
In the fall of 2006, the Access Fund will sponsor the Seventh Annual Adopt-a-Crag, a national initiative devoted to natural resource stewardship and volunteerism. This year, the Access Fund anticipates over 125 Adopt-a-Crag events at climbing and bouldering areas around the country.
Why is Adopt-a-Crag important?
Adopt-a-Crag is about giving back to the climbing areas we use on a regular basis. From the signs in the parking areas, to the established trail systems, to the rocks and boulders where we devote endless hours, climbers are frequent land-users, and it is important that we make an effort to maintain and care for that land. Adopt-a-Crag encourages climbing communities to engage local land managers, landowners, park service employees and forest rangers in conversation about ways to conserve and protect their climbing areas and environments.

REI invites our members and guests to join us for a fun and productive event as we take the opportunity to give back to one of our local recreation areas. REI promotes active stewardship of the environment by partnering with the community to help maintain these public lands. Join REI Northridge, REI Santa Monica, and the Access Fund (www.accessfund.org) for our Adopt-a-Crag project on Saturday, October 21st. Volunteer work entails trail work, picking up trash and glass, graffiti removal as well as helping out with other projects to restore these areas. No Prior experience is necessary! Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Pre-registration is encouraged. To register in advance please email REI Outreach Specialist Adam Reyes at areyes@rei.com. Please bring your own gloves, and sun protection.

Highlights on the day include a free REI waterbottle, lunch, snacks, water, and raffle prizes for everyone!
