Hi I'm in New Zealand right now and am planning on being here at least untill the January if not longer. I love the sight of the mountains around here. Some look pretty hard to climb, i'm not that experienced in ice, glacier travel and navigation on such terain. I would like to climb some mountians here but was woundering what and where i could go with the equipment that I have. I have a light standard rack BD cams .75-3 Metolous FCU #3 set of BD stoppers #4-13 BD hexes #7-9 Grivel airtec racing Ice axe 32 meters 8.8mm glaciers rope 60 meter 9.5 infinity mammut rope 6 arm length slings 2 double arm length slings about 50 feet of 1" tubular webbing. Where can I go with this? I can lead upto 5.6 YDS trad I have played a little bit with self arresting and glissading on rotten snow back at home in Montana but nothing like this. Can anyone give me any information on where i should start or any names or data of routes that i could do with what I have or what other Gear should I get? I am sumwhat limmited on funds but could schrounge up about 400 dollars for climbing gear MAX. I'm just looking for any Info that I could possably get. Thank you all who look at this and for any information.

Save your money, $400 won't get you much gear around here. I don't do alpine, so I can't really help you as to where to go (I know a couple of people who might, and you might want to try posting on www.mojozone.co.nz as well), but from the way you have posted, I would suggest the most important thing to be looking for right now is a partner who knows about the mountains in NZ. PS, I know you are probably super keen on the whole alpine thing, but depending on where you are based on the SI, you might want to consider getting in some *quality* cragging as well
